I have a 1991 SHO that starting ticking the other day when i was playing with a RX-7. The noise is coming from the top of the engine on the driver side at 2000 RPM's and up. The noise is a loud ticking best heard on 4 of the intake bolts when you put your ear on the end of a screwdriver and the other end to the intake bolts. I have removed the intake last winter to replace valve cover gaskets and to check valve clearance.

thanks

Ok i got off of work today and did one more test on my car to find out ere the noise is coming from. I put the car to 2k rpms and started to pull plug wires when i removed the number 5 wire the icking noise was gone. So im going to say that it is the rod bearings if anybody has any other ideas let me know. I have been looking in to doing this job on my car but hoping for money to rebuild my extra motor and tranny.

Also any helpfull tips on this job would be great i already look at http://www.shophoenixproject.com/ to find some tips.

Thanks again

wait a second, how does the ticking going away when you pull a plug wire lead you to rod bearings?
my guess is timing chain tentioners,or a problem with either that plug or that wire.or one of the vac canisters, common on 3.0L do you have any power loss?
