I know they aren’t welded guy I got it from parked it bc that reasonClassic sound of loose cam gears. Do not run the engine until you pull the valve covers and check the cam gears. If not welded, do it now. If the gear slips while running it will bend valves.
It sounds like it’s coming from the engine it doesn’t change with rpm. The cams aren’t weldedIs it coming from inside the engine? Does it change with rpms?
I would look --on the outside maybe a pulley or tensioner issue or cooling fan --something that goes round and round
inside--yikes. are the cams welded?
Runs fine no issues idles great maybe I can get away with just welding the camsTake off the intake and valve covers and look for camshaft slippage. They are swedged together not a solid piece where the shaft meets the gear. I swore someone must have mentioned welding those things. Damn. Maybe you'll get lucky and it's savable or not cams at all. I would never trust a non welded cam on the v-8s. Mine was welded and engine was still strong at 200k miles. Got rid of it for failing tra nny
I think I’m a 100% it’s the cam my white car (rip) was making the same noise when I got it and the cam wentMaybe. If it is the cams. They are now loose and can quickly slip, get the engine out of time, have the valves contact the pistons and potential to damage the cylinder. I would not start it again if possible until cam is confirmed. Rear cam fails more often than front but both can fail.
It’s the front one making noise so lucky it’s easy to pull up i will do thay next week and up date with pics see what you guys thinkcheck the damage and see if it fixable. I do like those engines except for this flaw.
I moved back to IllinoisAre you in Illinois, Iowa, or Texas this month?

Yea that’s how my white one was but this time im not going to keep running the car I can save this car for the meantime it’s going to sit till springCheck the cylinder and see if there is any damage. If not maybe cam or head swap can save it. Anything that involves keeping this car requires a cam weld going forward. This happens alot and people come on here like nah... won't happen to mine. It is a flaw of all of them
Thanks for the help everyone !Yea that’s how my white one was but this time im not going to keep running the car I can save this car for the meantime it’s going to sit till spring
