I have two mysterious noises coming from my engine bay...

The creaking noise happens when I turn left (the noise is in the left side also) when I am stopped.

Another thing is when I start off, either backing up or forward. I makes a "thunk"ing sound, once. each time I start off. It happens eaiser if I am going in reverse...going forward I have to give it some decent pedal for it to happen.

I checked the engine mounts by parking and easing on the gas with the brake on...and (unless you need to put a lot of pressure) the engine doesn't move much at all. but underneath the joint where the exhaust is connected...seems to be moving quite a bit ????....any thoughts ??

Your subframe mounts are probably the culprit...There is a recall on the rear bolts that hold them on....Get this checked asap...as I have had the subframe fall out of a Taurus...It isn't a cool experience oh_my

I have a similar "thud" emitting from my car but it seems to be coming from the right-rear and it only happens when the car rocks from side-to-side. I looked at all the suspension in the rear and it looks OK (I haven't had a chance to jack it up yet). It developed after I 'discovered' a sinkhole under some water. Could it have anything to do with the sub-frame mounts? I don't think mine was ever in for that particular recall... Thanks,

Matt

don't bother looking, just go and get them done. they don't cost you a dime. i reluctantly waited to get them done until last summer and i have woed the car since 4/2001. i used to get the cards from ford saying that i needed it done. anyways, this summer after getting an alignment, some new tires, ball joints, and endlinks...i noticed my car was doing soemthing really weird. it was jerking to the right and then bakc left only when the wheel was turned right.. it was weird. well erik tremblay and i were working on the car one day and he noticed that my subrame was hanging off on the rear passenger side, and the front bolt passenger side was about to snap. needless to say i made an appointment ASAP and got it done. jut get it fixed! they were recalled for a reason

Call up the local stealer ASAP and get that recall taken care of. Believe me... you don't wanna be driving down I-80 and have your subframe drop down from the car as your travlling along @ 70 MPH and watching the shower of sparks in the rearview... or so I've heard.....
