Throttle response help!

Hey guys, I recently did the spark plugs and plug wires and I think it improved my gas a bit (only did 2 days ago). But that's not the problem. My throttle response in my car has been very so-so. From nothing to about half throttle I get very slow acceleration. It accelerates...but very very slow until I get to about 30. At this point I have been slowly pushing the pedal further and further until it jumps as if I floored it suddenly - to about 4000 RPM's and the secondaries open up.
This has been happening lately over the last couple of weeks but maybe once a day or every other, not a lot at all. Now it happens every time I accelerate, and I found out the hard way. I pulled out in cars and my car wouldn't accelerate all until I floored it. After this the car behind me has already slammed on its brakes.
WOT seems fine - along with 3/4. It's everything else.
Any ideas would be great! I read up and saw it may be the "dreaded" VSS.
Any predictions on cost and labor would be great to, as that will be the next step.

Figures. I do stuff and to improve milieage, and now I can only floor my car to get places.

Run the codes and see what you get.

definitely sounds like a TPS. Replace it.

Also, if it is a bad TPS, you won't necessarily get a code for it. Mine was faulty (was causing a slight hesitation) and I never saw a TPS code, but I threw one on from a junkyard and the hesitation disappeared.

Unplug your maf sensor...takes 2 seconds. If it runs good while unplugged, get some CRC MAF cleaner. Take the MAF sensor out of the housing and spray it down a few times. Reinstall.

I really can't do this as I can't tell if the pedal is working unless I'm driving, and it only does it 50% of the time.
I changed the TPS sensor guys with no luck, exactly the same problems.

Symptoms again: About half the times I drive, when I push the pedal down my car will accelerate to between 20-40 and then theres a like dead spot in the pedal. All power disappears, and the car doesn't accelerate until the pedal gets wayyy down, then the car jumps as if I almost floored it (which by this time I have and it just sensed it).

What to do now!?

You can drive the car around with the MAF unplugged. It will not **** the car, but it will set a code and CEL. And you will get really bad mileage... which, if the MAF is bad, you might be getting already.

The MAF can seriously, seriously screw up driveability if it's bad in any of its many, many ways.

Question; did you have these symptoms before changing plugs and wires ?
If not, it's got to be something you did during the process; double check all connections, hoses for vacuum leaks, etc...
I would clean the MAF filament for sure; be sure to remove the screen so you can get to the filament

Stocksho, unplug the MAF. Drive around for 20 minutes. If it's better, then clean it...or just clean it...and see if it's better.

Unplugging it is free, so if it does not help, it didn't cost you anything.

That's not how you clean the MAF sensor.

Remove the two small security-torx screws from the top of the MAF, which will then easily lift-out of the housing from the top. The sensor is the two very small filaments that look like light-bulb filaments. Spray these elements several times, from several different angles. Allow to air dry and then reassemble.

If it's not the MAF I would check the vacuum hoses. Did you connect the hoses from the black canister in the back of the intake??


*EDIT* also check your throttle cable. Maybe it's not on properly.

Mine was acting up after the plugs/wires job was done. It was surging at Idle and Would not accelerated anywhere past 1/2 throttle. I got under there and wiggled the Tps around and made sure it was plugged in good, it wasn't. All was fixed!
