Well last week my car started making a horrible squeeling, metal/metal sound. It was dark but I took a look and it sounded like the original alternator was going out (bearings). The voltage regulator has been intermittent for awhile anyways. i say okay it's going bad so I'll get my Dad to send me a new one from Advanced Auto and give them an old one we had for the core. No problem. Fast forward to today. I get the car into my Auto Hobby Shop and pop the hood, what do I see the tensioner pulley was crooked rubbing on the tensioner. It had worn a nice mark into the tensioner by now. I take the battery and tray out proceed to remove the tensioner pulley to get the belt off and the damn pulley fell apart in my hands. Needless to say there is no bearing in the pulley at all. Traces were there but that was it. Pics below.
Well I installed the shiny new alternator and have a brand new Dayco belt ready for install also. I went on a search out on the town to a couple Italian parts stores, in search of a new bearing for the pulley. No Go. Their bearings are different sizes out here. Dang! Now I have to order a new or even used Pulley and maybe a tendioner event though mine is okay, just a little scarred.
So the car is DITW(Dead In The Water) till' a replacement shows up. It only took me 30min to get everything apart and replace the alternator. Not bad, I know this car pretty well. Oh this new alternator came with a computerized test printout with all the actual specs on it. Says out put is under normal load is 119Amps and 13.6v. Woohoo! Think I got a good Dud! If there is such a thing.

Same pulley exploded on my SHO about 2 weeks after I bought the car. I picked up one through my local dealer but paid a hefty price for it ($100).

Your dealer had one?!?!?! I asked the local dealer here (about 8-10 months ago) and was told they could not get a pulley...but he could get up to 4 bolts! I was like, a d*mn bolt wont help without the pulley, dumb---.

His reponse, yea, I guess so.
