Im just thinking outside the box in terms of the exhaust cause the Chambered mufflers are not supposed to be run on a V6...

Yeah I know what you mean about the chambered.... Idk. I always thought the Borla turbo mufflers sound awesome on the SHO. And my exhaust sounds pretty good. Its the SHO shop exhaust with just some Edelbrock Turbo mufflers out back. It seems that random el-cheapo turbo mufflers end up sounding good on the SHO

Well, Borla is expensive and hard to find. Never did like the Edelbrock Sound or the Dynomax...

Just thinking outside the box... I would find some unique way to put the kind of exhaust I posted in my exhaust system... some how...

What if I replaced the Mufflers with Resonators? Hmmm...

You know I was thinking somewhat along those lines for my next exhaust setup... One muffler with an inlet and two outlets going to two separate resonators. I wonder if its been done before... I think we should have a stickied thread with links to sound clips of every type of exhaust done on the SHO.

A fart can is a terrible representation of Japanese exhaust.

THIS is the good kind of Japanese exhaust....

That is subjective. I think that car sounds like crap. I can appreciate it for its abilities but I do not like the way they sound. I also do not like the way V12's sound. I like 5,6,8 and the viper 10 cylinder a bunch. I dislike most 4 cylinders with the exception of subaru. When I put the tahoe muffler on my turbo SHO it sounded as good as a SHO can sound. It is not practical or good looking though

I like the way my stock exhaust sounds. It seems a little louder at idle than other SHOs, but I like it.

I have had numerous exhaust on my car and as far as sound goes the best i have heard is a stock catback and stock y pipe with glasspack mufflers. Other than that i have had a catless y pipe with glasspacks (loud as shit), and catless with stock mufflers (not loud just all rasp) but im going to be switching to magnaflow stainless series mufflers.

Magnaflow stainless mufflers and a catless y pipe sounds something like this

I'd say go for whatever type of exhaust a 350Z uses. 3.5 DOHC V6, so very similar to our motor, but every Z I've heard sounds 100X better than a SHO.

I have a Borla in the garage :munch:

Use that ricer muffler as a resonator, then two more for mufflers? Depends on how big the thing is.

Or just clamp it onto the end of the stock exhaust, at an angle sticking out of the bumber, sTr8 jDm style.

I'm not a fan of how the VQ's sound.

i think a particular sound is given to an engine, no matter what type of mufflers are on it, you can't compare apples to oranges

things like different valve timing and compression can even make two of the same type motors sound different............ even with identical exhaust systems........

I.E. you don't hear that 1995 suburban sounding like a 8 second drag car going down the strip no matter what muffler/cat/headers/etc you put on it.

A 3.5 honda v6, a 3.5 chevy v6, a 3.5 toyota v6, a 3.5 Ford v6, and a 3.5 Nissan v6 all sound different and have their own distinctive tone.

you could somehow transfer an entire 350z exhaust setup onto a SHO and it won't sound the same. If you pay attention, even the FWD vq35's don't have the same noise, they are slightly different engines with different hp configurations. The Altima/maxima/murano sound nothing like a G35, 350z, or a FX35

Actually, the engine is pretty much exactly the same, besides the tune. The difference in sound is actually from the exhaust, of course a 350Z is going to have a sportier sounding exhaust than a Maxima.

If you could somehow bolt on a 350Z exhaust to the SHO, I guarantee it would sound tons better than any SHO exhaust setup. Maybe not 100% the same, due to timing/cams/displacement, but a lot closer than you seem to think.

i had a ricer fart can on my 3.0 vulcan wagon and it sounded great. mellow and deep no rasp, but the same exact mufflers on my maxima were nearly silent until 6k
