Hey guys... I recently sprayed a good amount of "Air intake cleaner" into the throttle body to clean out the gunk, and ever since that the cars been acting funny. On a cold start the engine takes longer to turn over, and when it finally does it spits, sputters, makes a pop sound and tries to die out. I press the gas and it finally comes up to proper idle. Sometimes when I try to start it cold my pressing the gas doesn't help, and it still dies regardless. I then immediately crank it over again, and on this second attempt it always fires right up fine. There are no problems driving the car or with it idling. Engine runs awesome, it's just the startup issue.... Only the cold start. When it's warm it has no problem starting up........

I forget the name, but I do remember it said to spray liberally into the throttle body with engine "OFF". I believe it is made for the engine! It was air intake/manifold cleaner... I wonder if it damaged my O2 sensors, because nowhere on it did it say O2 sensor safe. Would a bad O2 sensor cause my problem?

What is good to clean my IAB? Regular carb cleaner? No codes came up during my test...

I am told that some carb cleaners will melt the valve inside the Idle Air Control valve. I guess it is made of plastic...? I could be wrong.

im not sure on that but i can almost bet its the IAM take it off and clean it real good because i had that problem before also.
and as far as giving it gas while cranking that is no good because if i remember correctly when you go that it dont give any gas its for a flooded engine i think its something in the comp it was programmed that way to clean the engine out as to not flood it more

when the motor is flooded u give it WOT while cranking and it will shut off the fuel completely. but if you press the gas a lil or part it will spray fuel

True , WOT while cranking (pedal into floormat) cuts the injectors from fueling more. So if its flooded , crank WOT till it starts.

Good call on this. I would second SASHO91's recommendation. Good Luck.

Well... I cleaned the IAB, and didn't notice any changes.

Could my MAF be malfunctioning? It doesn't make sense that it stalls on the first start, and fires right up flawlessly on the second attempt!
