well i had a new flex pipe put in today, and i put a new o2 sensor in the front y pipe, i am getting a code 172 now?? also found out that my drivers side front spring is broken. man i don't know if this car will ever get on the road. i used a NTK o2 sensor, it never had this code before, i havn't replaced the back one yet. i broke the front one getting the y pipe out. anyhow any ideas on what to do about that 172 code? this car is taking me way to long to get it on the road, it's driving me nuts! please help. thanks Mike.

Yeah, I have an idea- go buy a new oxygen sensor for your rear mainifold because thats the code for no good! Do a search next time you have a code to figure out.. They have all been talked about at one time or another.. A lot of people won't answer you for asking code stuff 'cause it's all availible if you use a SEARCH!

If its indicating lean, i would check for a vaccum leak... which is what 172 is for, a lean condition.

did you replace both sensors?

also, where was the code? Was it in memory?

I would disconnect the computer/eec for 30-60 secs. (pull the negative battery cable) then, re-attach, then drive for awhile. then pull the codes again.

I had a huge thread about my 172 code and it turned out to be my O2 sensor.

172 = right or rear O2 sensor not switching...replace that one now...normally you replace them together at the same time since you are already there.

I wouldnt be supprised if that code is still there with the new one.... i mean i hope it fixes the problem, but you cant automatically jump to that conclusion, all the time.
