I have a 92 SHO and need to rebuild a tranny for it. Wanted to see if I could rebuild it myself. I wanted to see if I could find a taredown on the tranny. Also I need to know what else needs to be changed during the process of rebuilding it and when it is put in the car. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you ever torn down a tranny before? If not it could be quite the struggle. I am not terribly mechanically inclined but I had to give up, as I couldn't even figure out the detent thing to get the case halves apart.

Other than that though, all the info you need to refurb it you'll get by driving it. Grinding engagement could mean the synchros are going out. Not sure about what symptoms worn blocking rings exhibit. All the other stuff I believe is "non wear" so it'd be mechanical failure if any of that stuff goes out.

If you have it a part and you don't need it back together right away, or you get another one I'd suggest getting the differential welded.

To reiterate, you probably want to diagnose it while you are still using it than take it a part and have to guess.

SHONut will also have a tool you can borrow to shim the diff. I rebuilt mine and installed the Quaife with the video.

this is a transmisssion I had bought from a wrecking yard and it has not been tested. I am afraid to have it put in without at least having it checked and changing whatever needs to be changed. Dont want to pay for the labor a third time. I have never torn down a trany. Thought it might be fun. But need to get it done soon.

I purchased the video from SHO NUT, it IS very helpful. To put in perspective how mechanically inclined i am. I've done plenty of alternators, starters, fuel pumps etc. I've done a couple engine swaps, clutch replacements. I started into my transmission and became completely overwhelmed. I sent mine off to Bizzy, she works for a fair price, shipping isnt as bad as you'd think, and your helping out the forum by supporting her. If you really wanna dive in, go for it! If you have any doubts at all, id send it to Biz.
