Ok...I went to autozone to check the codes yesterday. I did not have a pen or paper handy and when we hooked up the scanner it is throwing a buch of codes, well the autozone guy went in to grab a pen and paper and when he came back out it only threw code 11...which as I understand just says it did a check. So anyway I went it bought a fuel filter came out and my car was dead...so I got a jump and left. I checked the battery this morning and it was putting out a solid 12.33 volts. I know the connectors on my cables need to be replaced...but could a weak battery + the crappy connectors cause the car to run this bad? I dont really know why my car just keeled over like that at autozone....but I want to be sure before I go out and buy a new battery...I guess I will get them to check it for me. I know this post is lame but I just want some input.

hey man, crappy connectors and a bad battery would definately give you some starting problems, but if your car is really running like **** i think your problems lie elsewhere. what exactly is your car doing/not doing? and if your car stopped running, i think the first thing that would be suspect would be your alternator, but give us some more descriptions and maybe someone will have a better answer than i do.

The battery alone should measure about 12.2-12.3 volts. When running the charging system should be about 14 volts.

Ok here is what is going on....

check engine light will go off and on....but the car did not throw any codes?!? Is code 11 anything of concern?

Most of the time when the light comes on if I hit the gas there is NO power and then the car will recover in a few seconds and Surge with power again...it will even kinda buck. It will also do this when the light is off. There seems to be a real hesitation? this just started out of nowhere! the car ran great one second and bam! this crap started.

Could a bad fuel filter cause the check engine light to come on?

I need some ideas guys...I dont even know where to start. I am gonna go have them check the codes again for me.

Please help me

Why don't you check the codes yourself? It's very easy to do and while you're at it you can do the KOER test to see if any codes will be thrown while in that mode. It's hard to figure a problem like that out without any specific area being identified. I can say this, that when my alternator began to die, it messed with most of my lights on the dash, including the check engine light. Is your battery light on at any time? But first, check the codes yourself. If nothing comes up, then erase your codes and then start over and when the light comes on, do an immediate check to see if anything is up. Later.

A plugged fuel filter will not cause the MIL light to come on. When the light comes on is the engine still running or has it stalled? I would probably start with checking all connections and ground wires around your battery terminal. An intermittent loss of ground or power may cause problems. Good luck
