Cam failure, trans troubles, etc. etc. etc. ... What is the highest mileage any Gen III has gone without major repairs? Just wondering.

I have heard reports from people saying they have gotten near to 200K without problems. It is worth keeping in mind that the number of documented cam failures is very small, considering the number of the vehicles made. I am not trying to say it is not a problem, but rather, that the problem does not as yet appear to be a common one. Which, I suspect, is why we got no where with Ford on it.

1997 - 158,000 miles - engine fine, transmission rebuilt 8,000 miles ago ($1,800).

1996 - 108,000 miles - No problems (just had a new transmission cooler installed - $100.00)

Somebody on the V8 list just sold one with 182K on it for a grand. If I'd had the cash it would have been mine.....

Along this topic, I would like to know the highest mileage V-8, still running, without welded or pinned cams.

just bought a 1997 with 106k on it.

Definately have my fingers crossed.

No problems yet (except the dumb brake fluid leaked the first day I had it, but I got it fixed and looked over by dealer's shop for free)

I have a 3 year warranty that includes a lot, i'm hoping it will go for at least 36k more miles, hopefully much more.

There was a 271K mile V8 SHO on ebay a few months ago which I doubt had a cam weld.

Lowest milage V8 SHO: I looked at one on a dealer lot about 4 months ago that had 11,300 miles on the clock. They were asking 12k on it... I ran home to get my father's checkbook, and when we got back it had been sold.

Highest milage... I think that the 271k mile one takes the cake as the highest. I remember that one on EBAY... white one with white slicers, right?
