I've been waiting all day for the play by play on this. Three of their SHO's in the top 12 is an amazing feat.

I'll try to post the events later or tonight. We were able to take the checkers with all 3 SHO's together, 1st, 5th, and 12th. Waiting for some fotos to be posted. Our SHOtime team is leading the national championship. We'll see how it goes. No trip to France this year though. Not sure what the prize will be. Disneyland?

There were 4 SHO's entered in this race.

Ours, 89 MASH SHO, formerly RRRR, with 3 drivers, me, Martin and MikeD.

The 92 Starsky and Hutch SHO, formerly El Toro Loco, with 4 drivers, Mike Murphy, Gary, Tony, and Kerby.

Team Ziptie, 92 SHO, 5 drivers, Paul, Jay, Steven, Nigel and Steve.

The 93 Rat Patrol SHO from Oklahoma City, with 2 drivers, Chris and MikeH.

On Friday we all get thru tech without much trouble. The BS inspection was fine for the other 3 teams, zero laps. Not good for us, because after 3 races with Konis on the car, Judge Phil finally notices them. We show him pictures of the 94 ATX we got in Illinois with major front end damage from a deer that had the Konis. He didn't care, gives us 8 penalty laps! We plead our case and he asked if we drove the car to the track? Of course. He knocked off 4 laps. That's better but not by much.

Saturday the race starts at 10am, ends at 6:30. For this race one of the other teams set up a live timing & scoring link so with a Race Monitor app you could watch realtime T&S. Really worth the $4.99. Waiting every hour for the LeMons staff to post time sheets is not old school, it's caveman.

So the RP Sho was right behind the car that got the green flag, lucky for them. We were in 45th place out of 59, but with minus 4 laps. It took a while before we started moving up. Ziptie and ETL were ahead of us of course but I don't know where. An hour passes and ETL comes in overheating. Turns out the oil cooler "U" hose broke and the engine lost all the water. One dead SHO. At this time RP is in first place.

During Martin's stint, he gets bumped in the left rear by the 2nd Gen pink RX7. Well what happens to the bumper when that happens? The side piece falls down, so we get black flagged to fix it. He comes in, a couple of zipties and some tape and he's back out, 5 minute repair maybe less.

At around the 2 hour mark, Ziptie comes in for gas. About 30 minutes later the RP comes in, Kerby and Gary help them with the stop. We come in 15 minutes later. I don't know where we or Ziptie are in the standings, I'm guessing 15th-20th with Ziptie ahead.

The RP and us were running smoothly. Ziptie came in with a broken shifter. The plastic box had broken letting the rod slip out of the shift ****. Lucky for them, RP had a complete rod shifter assembly. Actually they brought it for Gary to put on his 90. Well now it's on Ziptie, it took less than 20 minutes to change.

Sometime during MikeD's stint he hears tapping sounds. With the helmet and all the other cars it's hard to tell what it is, so we tell him to come in. We listen to the engine and it sounds normal, we send him back out.

A little later RP Chris calls on the radio to say that Ziptie lost an axle nut. It happened right in front him. We tell their team and they bring the car in. Sure enough the whole left axle stub sheared off. So they replace the axle. It took 20 minutes maybe.

Around 3pm I get in our car. We are around 12th place. RP still first with a one lap lead. As I'm racing I hear the noise. It's hard to tell what it is, all the gauges read normal. After an hour or so it's getting louder, and I can hear it real good if I'm up against the wall on the front straight. After a few laps I figure out that there's no noise in 5th, 3rd or 4th noise. So it's the transmission, great. At 6, I come in for gas, go back out to finish the day. The weather has been in sunny with temps in the mid 80's, so it's cooler now but the transmission temperature is going up from the 200 it was earlier in the day. Not good. By 6:30 the trans temp was close to 260. Coming off the track I can hear the trans whining and raising all kinds of fuss.

End of day one, RP 1st, Mash, 7th, Ziptie 18th(?). The second place Rabbit is on the same lap as RP. Sunday is gonna be something to see.

Now we have to change the transmission. We are in 7th and we need to score points for the national championship, that we as Team SHOtime are leading. We drain the fluid and it has sparkles in it. The transmission is making metal. There goes the swim in the hotel pool....Ziptie has a "loaner" transmission that's been used by them and ETL, so we put it in our car. During the test drive Martin hears a hissing sound inside the car. It's vacuum leaking from the brake booster. The brakes feel normal but that's not right. No one has a booster so it is what it is. Get to the hotel at midnight.

At 8:30 Sunday they line up the top 10 first. It's like 60 degrees sunny a great day to race. Martin drives first and he feels the brake pedal isn't the same every time he uses the brakes. Sometimes it feels harder than normal. Not every reassuring. But he makes it thru his stint without much trouble. We are still in 7th. Rp still in first. Ziptie moving up.

Then we move up a spot because the 6th place BMW gets the people's curse lite. Now for a car to get crushed it has to get 33% of the vote, I think they got 10%. So no destroying the car with a backhoe. They have to decorate their car with Halloween stuff. By the time they come back out we have a 6 lap lead on them.

Later on another BMW in 5th, drops out. We move up another place. RP has a 2 or 3 lap lead.

For the finish the 3 SHO's get together to take the checkered flag. 1st, 5th, and 12th. I'll post a picture as soon as it's available.

Thanks to all our teammates and a special thanks to Team Ziptie for loaning us the transmission.

If our calculations are correct we have a 20 point lead in the championship. 3 races left til the season ender Dec. 17th in Decatur Tx.

Nice story. That little U-hose is a ****** for some reason. We blew it at Gingerman this year and lost all the water and the motor locked. Once it cooled off, it was fine though.
