temp guage

my temperature guage stopped working. the needle wont move at all. what should i check?
first sho problem of the +200000 mile range.

mine did the same thing on the 92.......mine turned out to be the temp sending unit......was like 11.88 at advance auto.....all u gotta do is remove the main coolant line that runs from the rad. to the block (that ur thermostat is in) then its rite under that has a little line that hooks to it......unhook that then unscrew the unit......screw in hte new one hook back up hte line and anythin else u needed to remove to get to it and ur done.......takes maybe 15 min. give or take a little

+1, only add the time it takes to partially drain then refill the coolant system.

Also, this should go without saying, but make sure the engine is NOT HOT! lol hot coolant is HOT!

Could also be the wire. Mine is broken because, well, I broke it when I was redoing my wiring harness, and I can't find where the wire dropped down too. Is it a wire that comes from the firewall, or is it in the harness as well?

On both my 90 and 92 harnesses the temp sending unit is a single wire that comes off of the engine harness right after the injector connectors.

well i went and got the part today from oreillys and i went to put it on but apparently it doesnt fit with the original connector. you have to cut it off and put the wires onto a different connector and secure it with a small nut to the top of the sending unit. is this waht yall did? if so ill just do it tomrow didnt feel like messin w/ it earlier. or is the part from parts america the one that the original connector fits on?

when i got mine from advance it was direct plug and play........just took out the old one and screwed the new one in and plug up the wire....no modification needed....i would assume that one would be the same but i could be wrong.......

There should only be one wire. This is the coolant temperature sender.

hey where the **** is that second coolant temp sensor on the motor. i have been looking for it. cuz i think that is the problem that my fans dont kick on anymore. and how much does that one run? i have already replaced that single wire temp sensor, thanks for any help in advance.

that one is on the back side of the thermostat housing facing the firewall, they are about 40 -50 dollars, and will help your fuel mileage slightly especially if it is still the original one from the factory

how did it crack it? was it to big or what?

no i was putting the stuipd little sensor back in the T stat housing and i spun it a little to far, it only goes halfway in about before for some reason it doesnt fit, here i have a picture of the housing out with the new one in.

that is the housing out of my car with the sensor from napa that does workbut there is a hairline crack right near where the sensor goes in, be care you can spin it in with your hands but i would only give it like a half turn after that and check it to make sure fluid isnt leaking other wise i would say you gotta retap it. its so dumb. i think it is too big at a certain point? i dont know but i have read that other people had the same problem
