I have a 91 sho and within the first few minutes of driving the temp guage will continue to go up and after it reaches a certain point will drop all the way down then go back up to what it normally is at. Is this jsut in need of a new thermostat? Or does anyone know the problem?

Replace the thermostat with Autozone Duralast 15878 thermostat, Felpro 35278 seal. That is the 180 degree unit; Duralast has a 195 unit too if you prefer that. This did wonders to temper the famous SHO temperature gauge variation in my car. It is a good thermostat, has the jiggle valve, and is not expensive. Make sure valve faces up.
