I have a TC problem. It will hesitate or refuse to lock up after about a 1/2 hours driving at highway speeds. The higher the speed the worse it is. There is also some slippage at all times.

If I shift the car to neutral while at highway speeds, turn off the motor and restart, the TC will again start to lock up.

The tranny was rebuilt in the spring of 2002. October 2002 the tranny went bad and went into a neutral state. The tranny was torn down and the parts replaced, the TC was rebuilt. I now suspect the EPC as the it was not replaced nor were any of the solenoids. They were checked to see that they operated when the tranny was last rebuilt.

Any thoughts?

Just as we talked about on V8SHO, I would look into the TCC solenoid. Espically if you can shut off in neutral and re-start with success of regaining lockup. There should be some codes in there. I would suspect a TCC failure of some type to be set. I have had to replace that solenoid a time or two after a rebuild. Good luck in getting her all fixed up. I think step 1 is scanning the car. Who knows... Could be a TPS.

Im sure hes getting the slippage when the TC dont lock up, I had that too on the way home from the convention. After a reset I got it back and never stopped on the way home. Mine dont slip any more but I replaced my convertor to resolve it.

Paul, im guessing that the convertors that you and Ryan received from the trans guy were old stock and again im guessing but I bet it had the old outdated bearing in it (brass sleeve incase Fisher is looking)Looks like the rrans has to come back out, even if it is the EPC you have to drop it (you can do it without but you should be on a lift with a lot of patience to do it in the car. it is in the Valve body cover top left. Heres what I would do

Hook up a gauge to the port on the trans to see your pressures, but remember that you have a chip and I think still the FC programming on your PCM so it will show higher. The specs are on the cd.

Second look for short in the BOO, Like I said mines all better but I cant get mine to unlock by depressing the BOO. Maybe your grounding so it wont lock up? Just a guess.

A TCC solenoid will throw a code if it sees slippage

It does throw a code. Can't remember the number but it is the TC not locking when commanded DTC. The slippage was noticeable when the car was on the dyno and in third gear. Another thing, if I keep it in third and near the redline (~6500) with the TC locked it will unlock and the rpms rise to 7k or so.

No BOO problems, the fact the TC will again act normal after I shut the engine off and restart points to an electrical or PCM accumulated data problem, I feel.

What happened on the dyno? I think I may be having the same problem, I am not sure.
Right at about 5700 RPMs in 3rd gear, the RPMs drop slightly and the hp drops to about 150 or so, then the numbers jumped back up to normal at around 6100. Is that what yours did? Scared the **** outa me.

The rpms dropping a bit is the TC locking up and normal operation. What mine is doing is the TC is unlocking near the peak HP point and the rpms rising. This should not happen.

I get around 200 hp on the dyno. What was best though last time, was the look on the Mustang guys faces when the V8 secondaries opened up and the motor quickly ran up to 7k. :)

Do you have the dyno sheet on the net?
I wanna compare yours with mine to see if yours is doing the same thing mine is.
