Taurus SHO power antenna problems

When I first bought my 1992 mtx last fall the power antenna only went half way up when the radio was on then partly down! Well i did some investigation and found that the nylon toothed line was broken in half. A new mast was ordered and installed and worked like a charm until the car sat through a ice storm! Well then another mast was purchased and it once again worked like a charm! Then for no reason last week it extended fully and the motor kept on running. After inspection I found a broken area in the toothed line! So I promptly went to the nearest salvage yard and removed one of those spiral masts off a 1998 black taurus se. The mast was gloss black which now looks great on my black on black 1992 mtx sho. I don't really care that it is not a power antenna cause it looks cleaner and is just one less thing to worry about.

how do you remove just the antenna, i took off the crome piece but what after that?

Danz, you gotta take off tire and remove fender lining. From there, remove antenna nut(on top) and pull antenna out the bottom.

There is also a little nut on a bracket inside the tire well that secures the antenna to the car that has to be removed before taking it out.

It would have made sense to put the antenna in the rear window defrost like some years of the Windstar. Will Ford ever remove the antenna mast all together from the Mustang?

i would like to remove mine from the fender and then install a VW style one that mounts on the roof just above the rear window.

on my second one,
and this one has a new feature.
its ready all the time, never has to go up or down, just stays up
