so i was on ebay the other day and i had a weird thought, how would an electric supercharger work in comparison to no supercharger, it would be really hard to get a real supercharger in one of these cars, and im just your average mechanic. The ad says it make 2-3 psi boost. the fan stays at the same speed, whereas a normal supercharger would increase speed and boost when the faster the engine goes. But could this possibly increase low end power? It may not do anything for the high end though.

In another car forum I belong to, someone traced these down to their REAL intended use from the REAL manufacturer. IIRC this is actually a marine bilge fan - Kinda like a bathroom exhaust fan for the bowels of your boat. Total hoax.

But you CAN put a real supercharger in one of our cars. ;)
Only takes about 3 years.
Just start saving for the new tranny. Mine lasted about 200 miles. The new tranny is being assembled now.

Looks like a good way to add 250 lbs and shorten alternator life to half of what it is pathetically now.......:shakehead

Hoping to not continue the semi annual alternator replacement of recent.

they said that you shoulden't run it off your alternator and use spare batteries in the trunk and plug them into a charger every night. i Know the guy that designed optimas and can get a couple for free. That should be an adequate battery for holding a lot of power. i Could get a couple. I doubt it would add 250lbs. maybe 100-150. But thats as much as having a passenger with you. Even to gain 75-100 horse in these cars would be amazing and worth it

I have been following the development of an electric supercharger for about six years now from a company called Turbodyne. Check out there web site here; http://www.turbodyne.com/

I believe this technology, when ever it comes to market is really going to be a legit "electric" forced induction system. That is if it ever comes to market :(

Here is a prototype install from there site

so you guys have cohoarsed me, lol pretty much told me not to try an electric supercharger, ive been looking into turbos. If i really wanted to it would cost around 4-5K, get the tranny built by FPS, spend about 500 bucks on a turbo off ebay, which you can get some around 200-300 but i don't know if they really are the best, i need to look into what would work and fit in my car, looking around the engine bay there isn't a lotta room but one place i can think of is if i removed the cats and have a y pipe made that would y a lott sooner leaving room to fit a turbo where the old rear bank cat went. Run the tubing under the car to the front, put in an intercooler and route the tubing to the maf, which that would need to be replaced along with a high flow fuel pump and bigger fuel injectors, and then have it tuned for the rear o2 sensors. I think 7-8 psi boost would be nice and would be lucky for everything to cost 6K along with the tranny. i have a friend that can weld and make custom exhaust pipeing...now if only i had the money for this project...

uuuh ... somedude has 5k+ into turbo parts

and 3k+ into his tranny

the only thing alex realy splurged on was the turbo itself, as its a weeee bit oversize (supports 700+hp)

and putting the turbo up front like one somedudes car does a number of things:

1) minimal additional length between the heads and turbo compared to placing the turbo in the "exhaust tunnel"
2) 5 feet less charge piping
3) no trying to route the charge piping back past the exhaust (eeeew, heat)
4) side to side flow intercoolers fit just fine
5) easy to mount the turbo to the frame rail w/ a custom bracket
6) electric scavage pump for the turbo can be bolted to the bumper support, and the oil lines easily loop around the turbo, to the pump and then past the radiator and back to the pan
7) you would have to rip the engine out of the car, along with the subframe, for the turbo to scrape on the pavement

the only probe we had placing the turbo there was the pipe rubbing on the lower radiator hose, causing a leak, if you slide a piece of tubing in andclamp it on either side of where the pipe would rub, it might still wear through the rubber, but the steel pipe and hose clamps keep everything sealed

where im thinking it going is no where near the radiator, on the other side of the engine, it probably woulden't have much chance of scraping the pavement because i have exhaust hanging pretty low and i haven't scraped that either. I don't know, maybe a year from now ill see what i wanna do when i get the money.

If I would ever turbo my car I would put a turbo where the passenger muffler sits, then route the charge pipe back up into the engine.

Gen III doesn't have much room in the engine compartment, even with the battery removed. Who knows though, as only a couple blown V8's have been created. Still a lot of room for different ideas to be tried.

I rode in Strings rear mount turbo set up on his 91, and that thing flew...

ya that is good idea, but woulden't it loose psi after a long length of tubing like that? and i don't have rear exhaust it comes out the sides...
