Before it's said, I've searched and came across several dozen topics, one being the infamous "moonfoof switch" thread, as well as a link to modifying a contour window switch to work in our console, but I still have some questions / misunderstandings on how the switch works so please bare with me! :). Now here's alittle history behind the situation:

Just to clarify, my sunroof is presently stuck in the vent/tilt position. From day one, I've always had a problem getting the sunroof to close from the vent/tilt position. Any other action, no problem. I usually have to play with it, to get it to close. Pressing the switch in the same location to get it from close to "wide open" and vice versa is no problem. The problem always remained in closing from the vent/tilt position.

I took it upon myself to remove the switch console, improperly I might add, and here's how it looks (after removal). . .

Here's the button itself. . . . .

Here's what the button goes onto. . . .

I believe this is what houses it? . . . .

Here's the side of the console, where the switch goes into . . . .

Now, I haven't the slightest clue as to how this works, and if there's anyone who could explain in reference to the pictures above, that'd be great! Also, please excuse my lack of terminology. I just can't comprehend what's wrong. The button seems to be "intact", although I did notice inside the button, there is a tab that seems to have broken off.

During my search, there seems to be a way of using a "crank" on the sunroof motor itself, and manually close the sunroof. Where do you put the "crank", or flat edged object on to close it? Pictures to reference from. . .

Here's how it looks with the console off (very distasteful) . . . .

Is there where I want to put the crank, and manually shut the sunroof?. . .

3:

I assume, that these are the gears(?) that motor turns to shut the sunroof. . .

Another shot. . . .

Again, I apologize for such a long post. I just really want my sunroof shut before it rains again, and my understanding of the situation is crude at best. Any help from anyone would greatly be appreciated, thanks!

Well, your moonroof switch looks shot. I'd try one of the NAPA ones that everyone has been using (I'm on my 2nd one in 1.5 years) or, if you can, get your hands on one of those Contour switches.

In terms of manually shutting the moonroof (if you have to before you get a switch), you'll have to take the motor that's in the pictures you took, off. There's two or three screws holding the whole motor assembly up there. There motor is hooked into the gear, which you can manually crank if need be.

Thanks for the input! It seems the general consensus around here is that, the napa switch of a couple of years ago and now are some what two different switches. The ones presently sold burn up easily, as opposed to those made earlier which last longer then the current 1 time use ones.

So the switch itself (in picture 3, I suppose?) is bad? How can you tell? I'm confused because, the button is held onto the switch by 2 tabs on the side which it snaps onto. I can't for the life of me figure out how the button, actuates the switch in an open / close operation, or am I missing something? It's as if the button is supposed to be making contact with something on the switch to send out a signal to the motor, but I can't figure it out. A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The shaft that the button snaps onto actually rocks a little bit when the button is pushed. I had a heck of a time figuring out how the switch works too.

Moonroof Switch-Contour Alternative?

What year(s) of the Ford Contour Sunroof switch work for the SHO?
Anyone happen to know the Ford Part Number and Cost?

What specifically has to be modified so it will fit?
Thanks

Instead of taking it apart, apply power to the terminals of the motor - one way opens and the reverse polarity closes.

get you two wires long enough to reach the inside of your car run one to the pos and one to the nag. then pull the bule and red wires off the motor of your moonroof. then take your wire that is being ran from your batt and thouch the clips where the wires was. and this will allow you to close your sunroof. hope you can understand this if not you can give me a call and i can better explain. just e-mail me and i will send my number [email protected]
