I read in my service manual that you can stick a crank somewhere in there (probably through that cap that comes off). I have an 89, though, so I don't know if it's the same for other years, as Ford has changed their sunroof designs periodically.

Actually the instructions are in the owner's manual for the Gen I.
It says to remove one of the inside door handles and hand crank the roof shut......It will fit exactly over the spline shaft and turn.
So..........go to the boneyard, buy a handle off of a baby Taurus and crank away....I say FoMoCo realllly goofed on that one, since we ain't got no manual windows ever in a SHO......tell me I am wrong, I will retract that last statement!
Ma Ma M eek!

More than likely the switch's button has cracked and is not actuating the switch (you'll se what I mean when you get it apart). Remove the two map/reading lights. Remove the two philips head screws. Remove the panel. Look at the ears on the button as you try and actuate the switch and you will see that it is broken or craked (cheap as design). You can remove the button and close the sunroof by rotating the switch post with a pair of plyers. I would recommend disconnecting the switch until you get a replacement switch w/button (Ford 60.00 and must be painted)or button (salvage or parts car).
