First time poster but long time reader. Just picked up a 2010 SHO with 71k on it. So far loving it but went to use the sunroof and it will only tilt up and not go back. I read somewhere if the battery was disconnected then you may have to do a sunroof relearn but can't find anything that applies to the 2010 Taurus since it has separate tilt and slide buttons. Does anyone know anything about a reset? Thanks!

Is this while the engine is running or on battery or both? Very likely the tracks need to be cleaned and greased, and the drain holes blown out. Really no other known issues, so that is what I would start with. Another thing you can try is doing a full reset by pulling the neg battery cable for 30 minutes. Also have the battery tested for CCAs while at it.

Might be a recalibration routine, will check to see.

It's both with the car running and off. The back of the glass sucks down into the car but it will not go back even an inch I can hear the motor click. I was hoping there was a reset so I can rule that out then if that does not work I can take further action but was just really hoping there was a reset I can try first.

Try this, see if it helps

Roof Opening Panel Motor Initialization
NOTE: A new roof opening panel motor will only vent and must be initialized.

NOTE: The roof opening panel motor must be initialized when repairs are carried out on any part of the roof opening panel system, including: whenever the roof opening panel motor has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel glass has been removed from the roof opening panel system, the roof opening panel assembly has been removed from the vehicle, a new roof opening panel motor has been installed, a new roof opening panel glass has been installed or a new roof opening panel assembly has been installed.
  1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position. For an existing roof opening panel motor, skip to Step 3.
  1. For a new roof opening panel motor, push and hold the tilt switch for 2 seconds after the roof opening panel glass moves to the full VENT position and the motor stalls.
  1. For an existing roof opening panel motor, push and hold the tilt switch until the roof opening panel glass moves to full VENT. Then push and hold the tilt switch until the following actions occur:
    1. The roof opening panel glass motor stalls into a hard stop after approximately 3 seconds.
    1. Then, after motor stalls, continue holding for an additional 5 seconds.
  1. Release the tilt switch and verify successful initialization by carrying out one-touch open, one-touch close and one-touch vent operations.

Saw this note on GLOBAL OPEN, btw, for anyone interested
Global Open

NOTE: The global open feature may be enabled/disabled via scan tool or in some cases modified by the customer following a procedure listed in the vehicle Owner's Literature. For a complete list of available programmable parameters, refer to Section 418-01 .

When the unlock button of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is held for 2 seconds, the global open activates. The Body Control Module (BCM) sends a signal to activate the one-touch vent operation of the roof opening panel. The global open feature does not operate if the delay accessory is active.

Another thing you could try (if you have this feature), is lock the car with the key fob until it chirps and then press/hold the lock button on the key fob for about 5-10 seconds. This can also tell the sunroof to close. If you do the same with the unlock button on the fob, all the windows will roll down and sunroof pops up. My Lincoln has this feature, not 100% yours does though.

I will give that a shot limited02, I am starting to think it is jammed when it trys to slide back. The back sucks down like it wants to go into the roof but the motor clicks.

In that case, just might need to get in there with a vacuum cleaner and a good lint free cloth to clean up debris/dirt. Inspect carefully to make sure all the rail components are intact. Then apply an appropriate grease (dielectric is fine) to the mechanisms.

Though this video is for an Edge, the ideas/process may be of assistance:

I have lost controls on my '15 MKS EcoBoost.

2 things I did notice in the past few days...
1) I had the moonroof balk on me closing a few days ago. Started to close and then retreated to full open. I think I read if you tap close again quickly, it will close with more force in case of minor blockage.
2) I clicked to open the moonroof today and realized about 10 minutes later it didn't open.

I drove a couple of hours with it open, got to a gas station and tried to close it. No response. I kept hitting the switch, thinking maybe the connection had an issue. I must have hit the switch 100 times. Nothing.

I read about the initialization of the switch and found the procedure to open and close using the tilt. (Opened the driver door, turned ignition on, then within 5 seconds turned the ignition off then on then push up on tilt, release, push and hold tilt again for 5 seconds) That closed my roof. It did then tilt up and I had to do that procedure a number of times to get it to tilt closed. Now, it won't respond to anything. I also can't close my shade past the rear passenger compartment.

So I'm guessing the track is dirty and needs cleaning? The switches show they are intermittent. The motor seems strong when it worked.
