Okay, I ordered the summit turbo mufflers because I was under the impression that they didn't rasp. Or maybe it was because I could get two good mufflers for the same price of one muffler at the local parts store. Anyway, I got everything hooked up and I have really bad rasp. It's ok if you give it gas really slow but if you give it even moderate throttle it starts to rasp really badly. How can I fix the rasp? Everything else is the stock configuration. Can I replace the resonator with a straight piece of pipe or maybe replace it with a different setup of larger smaller etc. resonators? Let me know what you guys think. I like the tone of the mufflers though. thumbs_u The other question is about hanging the mufflers. Do you guys put in an elbow for the passengers side and use a different type of hanger or what? This is on a 90 mtx by the way. Thanks for the input.

If you replace the resonator with a straight pipe it will only add to the rasp. You may be able to lower the raspiness by cutting the resonator out and adding two small resonators or cherry bombs. Do you still have the turn-downs? Or did you put straight tips on?

Okay, I might experiment with that. I don't have turn downs or tips on yet. There just blowing right into the bumper for today. I did cut the turn downs with the hangers attached off the old mufflers before I tossed them though. I will probably do turndowns though. The summit muffler is a little shorter and I assume a higher flowing muffler than the stock mufflers were. So if I went with a larger diameter-shorter length resonator, it should balance out the rasp shouldn't it? We'll see I guess.

Hmmm I have summit turbos with everything else stock and have no rasp at all...I'm not sure why you are experiencing this.

I also had summit turbos with the rest of the car stock and there wasn't a rasp except for when the car was cold. After the car warmed up, they sounded beautiful.

I had the Summit turbos on my 90' w/ straight tips and don't remember any rasp either. It could possibly be the fact that you don't have and tips on there now. Try putting some turn-downs on there and see what happens.

I put the Summit Turbos on my 93 ATX. No rasp, but I have a buzzy rattle when I rev her up while stationary. I think it is only coming from one muffler & I can live with it (iti si a $18. I did not have tailpipes on them for ~1-1/2 week. Made the car really rumble inside, but no rasp.

Tailpipes : I had a muffler shop bend an S-shped piece of 2-1/2" tail pipe. I bent up a piece of 1/4" rod and put it in the stock hanger, welded it to the tailpipe. Seems to work prety well, although I haven't crawled under to look at it since Christmas.
