So who else is flooded out. I was up in Springport last night and ended up stopping and hanging with my brother in Ypsilanti because the storm was so bad. Even when I headed home, I-475 was closed from flooding and most local roads were flooded. Anyone else have some fun or have some cool weather/flood pictures?

Back in Michigan ... again.
I had a big tree branch come down on power lines in my back yard yesterday evening. Stood at my back door and watched the branch catch on fire, then it erupted into a huge blueish electrical explosion. Power went out obviously but then it came back on a minute later and did the same thing all over again. And then it did yet again another minute later, that was the last time before staying off for good. But the last explosion sent a surge through my house

I'm now out a TV, PS2, DVD player, VCR, satellite receiver and microwave, possibly washer/dryer and well. I'll hopefully know later this evening as the power company restored "partial" power this morning, but I have no 220.

So much for the cash buffer I'd built up.

Sounds like you lost a phase.. or they did in the transformer.. Gotta love plasma tho! :) 3 times is kind of odd tho. They usually try to reset themselves once.. never heard of twice before... stranger things have happend tho.

And where are your surge protectors?!? No GFCI's on the microwave? If something is funny in any of those "appliances". I would almost bet they all have a fuse internally that could be replaced. There is usually one near the power supply of most electrical things. More or less like a fuse link in a car.

Also.. the T.V. ... Most have internal circuit breakers inside of them... even if you leave it plugged in forever it might not start until you actually leave it unplugged for a few minuites, then try it again. I've "fixed" a few TV's that way before. Just things to try before giving Best Buy all of your money. ;)

I'm with VerV. You will be able to smell a burned up power supply. It's unmistakable.

The microwave actually popped and had a burst of fire out the side, so I'm pretty confident that's cooked.

The TV turns on, but absolutely no picture.

The other items are completely DOA.

After the third explosion (I didn't think it would keep resetting either) I went downstairs to throw the main. Half my breakers were thrown.

Someone here at work mentioned that DTE has some kind of reinbursement plan for issues like this. Anyone familiar with that?

Otherwise I do have renters ins.... with a $1000 deductable

Well, Direct TV is sending me a new receiver free of charge. I cracked open my DVD and VCR and found each a blown fuse inside, so those are back up and running. I'm still out a TV, mircrowave and PS2, but I want to check the mircowave tonight just to make sure there isn't a blown fuse in there as well. The PS2 is done, went to cycle the power switch and it's welded in place. The tv... well it turns on but there's no picture. I may experiment with it a bit but it's already been replaced with ah, something larger :)
