I’m wondering what braked would be best for my 89” SHO I can’t spend an ungodly amount but I don’t wanna go cheap anyone have suggestions on the best brakes. It will be my daily car but from time to time I want to have fun. I’ve seen the brakes on SHO source but I don’t know which one is best. I also know I’m going to probably change the spindles. I also have Gen 2 wheels on my SHO.

Get a larger set that you can afford. That will be better. If money is an issue then get whatever fits under the wheels you already have. GenIII brakes weren't bad when I owned my GenIII.

So pretty much the bigger the better and all that matters is if the wallets big enough

I thought your dad had a sho? 11.6 gen III upgrade is great, beyond great compared to stock.
Not Brembo great but it’s a ******* Taurus.
Hawk hps plus pads I did track days for years and don’t need to be hot to work so daily worked. Filthy but good. You wanna stop or worry about pretty wheels?
Spindle change needed and if I didn’t want to see Red Cobra calipers through my 5 spoke wheels I would have stayed with them.
Honestly they worked awesome, just more pad choices with mustang calipers was the only reason I switched.
I vote
1 get it running good
2 get it stopping good
3 suspension better
4 collect underwear
5 police grill
Stay under the radar at 19, have a little grease available to dab on your face before the cop gets to your door and you start your whole
“ no drugs, no alcohol, I’m a gearhead ******* just fixed it after 6 months of wrenching” speech.

Exceptions always pop up but generally yes. If you are going to stomp on the vertical pedal, invest in the horizontal pedal.

No truer words have been spoken. Things get real interesting when you go to get on the brakes and they are fadding. Yikes...

Yay he’s got a SHO alright but he’s an ass half the time. I’m not worried about keeping this car pretty rim wise shit on my rims don’t matter as long as I stop and clean the rims. Now the suspension aspect how would you make that better never had to deal with suspension. Now where can I get some underwear I think I’m down to my last pair. And I’m reality the police grill will be the least of my worries.

Change all 4 corners at one time, try not to use different pads on the front vs the rear, unless you are working towards a specific goal with an experienced guide at hand. Assuming the brake distribution is still working correctly. You can opt to bypass the proportioning valve altogether

After my subframe connectors, Y pipe, & reinforced motor mounts the '96 brake upgrade was well worth the investment. Works very well with 11.1" rotors drilled and slotted and ceramic pads with stock slicer wheels.

LKQ Pick and Pull Fort Wayne. Grab front spindles, and brake lines (if in good condition) off of a 1994 or 1995 Taurus or Sable. From a 2001-2007 Taurus or 1995 and newer Lincoln Continental (later have painted rotors) look for rotors that haven't been worn into by the brake pads. Here you want rotors, caliper brackets and calipers.

The calipers are the same 1994 through 2007, so if you want grab hoses and calipers together off a 94-95. To go even cheaper grab it all off a 94-95 it will at least get you 11 inch brakes.

As SHOCH suggests the Hawk HPS front pads might be the only thing to buy new, they have been on clearance for quite a while. The Ford OEM pads are close but don't use these on the rear.

You'll pay as much at the wrecking yard for rotors as you will for brand new 2000's Taurus ones at AutoZone.

(EDIT, not true anymore, except at RockAuto - rotors at all auto parts stores have gone from $25 to $54+. For the same price at my u-pull, you can put together a complete 94-95 strut assembly + ABS knuckle and hub (maybe even taking a sway link), along with the 01-06 bracket and pads, and use either's caliper.)

"598" brake pads out of a yard are a steal if they've just been replaced, though. "FN74" brake caliper brackets are what you are looking for, along with the calipers. You need the bracket bolts from a 94-95 though along with its knuckle; the bolts from a 2001+ are too long.

One thing you do want out of the newest 2001-2007 Taurus or Sable you can find, that is never mentioned in upgrade threads, is the donut spare tire. The stock one won't fit over bigger brakes.

Another 96+ brake upgrade thread.
