Has anyone ever thought of or done a custom subwoofer box in their trunk? Its not that I am going to do it, but the SHO's with the JBL sys would be perfect. You could remove the factory sub and custom fab a ported box inbetween the wheel wells and have the port come straight up the hole in the back deck where the factory sub was, and you would get the bass delivered right into the cab of the car!! Cool huh?! :p eek!

i think someone has done something very similiar. if you do a search it may come up. i really could have sworn ive seen that before somewhere....

i cut out my stock sub box to fit an 8 inch rockford sub, it sounded really good. i have since moved up to a 12 inch rockford and my bigass amp so i sold it on ebay. a buddy of mine just had a custom 4 sub system molded into the back of his 300ZX TT.

if you can find someone who does good work (if you dont want to do it yourself) its worth the money. but if you do it yourself you should look into similiar designs on other cars and find out materials, dimensions, etc. i was going to do something like that but i think my money is better off going in the coffer for a tranny rebuild, so until then im just going to go with a double 12 box between the wheels.

Sure, you could aim the port up there, but tuning it might be an issue. Just make sure you tune the port, and don't just cut it to the size of the hole and expect it to sound good.

IMHO, a box that would reach the hole would be a pretty awkward size to sound good.

Some people also remove the rear stage of their sound systems and let the bass enter through both the factory sub hole as well as the speaker holes.

You are now $0.02 richer.

A long while back I had a 6th or 7th Order bandpass enclosure ($800) built for two twelves ported into my 93 SHO via the back deck and the results sounded very good. The box weighed a freaking ton and has been yanked in favor of "lighter" materials.

I've been involved in the car stereo scene since 1977. Back then large speakers required large boxes. Nowadays, sub systems have made a large
step forward with the advent of speakers that don't require an acre of space to perform. It is amazing how 2 12w7's + 2k watts and a...dare I say, tiny sealed box will perform.

I got a couple of questions, I have a 93 atx with just premium no jbl. i am going to put a pioneer head unit,i have kenwoods in the door, i want pioneers in the rear, should i use the stock amp, and i want to put an eight where the jbl system would have been, Of course i would go free air (do you think that sounds good) what does the stock interior look like with the jbl. do i have to cut the panel that is back there or no. any pics would be helpful
