My new '91 SHO has the JBL system in it with the two amps in the back, but I don't see the sub woofers below the mid-range, rear-deck speakers. There are supposed to be subs there, right?

Any ideas where I can get replacement open-air subs? My stereo guy says he'll have to build a small enclosure and put an infinity in it to give me a replacement sub since the open-air subs are difficult to find nowadays, especially in 6x8 or 6x9.

uhh i hate to say it but crutchfield probably has what you need, atleast find the product number there and then order it on amazon if you have to? Just because Crutchfield charges alot, but they have what you want for sure.

Thanks. I found some cool stuff at Crutchfield, but didn't find what I was looking for. It was worth a shot, though!

I removed all four speakers from my rear deck and replaced them with some good after market 6x9s. I went with a complete Alpine system on the head unit and all speakers. Alpine makes a plug and play amp. that fits behind the glove box. Makes a night and day difference over the factory JBL.

What speakers did you replace the subwoofer with? Those are what are so hard to find.

My car didn't come with the subbox. It had 5x7s above the rear deck and 6x9s below the rear deck. I removed all 4 and replaced them with 2 Alpine 6x9s. Those hit hard enough for me as is.

Thanks. I'll check into those speakers. I found some 5x7 subwoofers, so those may suffice.

to answer your original question, the rear deck should have a pair of 6x8 speakers, and between them a black box of approx. 1 cubic foot size with the subwoofer in it.

if you are still interested in the factory stuff, I have at least one sub box in my for sale thread.

Thanks, but I actually already have one of the boxes for the rear deck. It only fits in a get 2, though. If I get desperate enough, I may adapt it to my Gen 1.

I ended up buying a 10" Infinity Baselink system that comes in a tiny little box with amp built in. Gets excellent reviews and it's cheap. Hangs below the rear deck so it doesn't hardly take up any trunk space. It's a great alternative to the stock setup for $169 on Amazon. Check it out. I might try to mount it behind the glove box As others have done with other cars. It'll make the install of the wires easier and cheaper.

Thanks for the help!
