Before I called my local Ford dealership, I checked the website of NHSTA regarding the subframe recall on my 1995 SHO. Indeed, there is a document that states a recall on the "structure frame and members" of the car for a 1995 Taurus SHO. When I called the service dept. at Ford, the service advisor stated that there is no recall on my 1995 Taurus SHO after I gave him my VIN #. He added that the recall is only for Taurus models made in 1989 to 1993. Is this true? Do I have to take a printed copy of the document to the dealership and insist that they repair my subframe? bs Anyone who has any experience with this type of situation? Any info. is appreciated.

Thanks.

The subframe isn`t the recall,it`s the bushing nuts.I do beleive they are correct, and not all Gen II`s are in the recall. It may have stopped at 93 like they said.

Tell the service advisor the read the dealer letter in recall # 98S36 paying special attention to the paragraph titled "Service Tracking". It provides instructions on what they should do if the VIN is not in OASIS but otherwise meets the requirements for the recall. The recall does include certain cars in the 89-95 model years and Pennsylvania is listed as an affected state.

Before doing so, make darned sure that your car hasn't already been done, otherwise you'll look silly.

Pull up the carpet on the passenger side floorboard. If the recall has been performed, there will be a rubber plug in the floorboard that selas the hole that has to be cut into the floor.

how close will it be to the center console/firewall? Carpet's kinda hard to pull up due to the rubber backing :)

It will be closer to the outside kick panel, inset about 2-3 inches from the wall.

On a ATX, the hole on the driver's side will be directly below the lower left corner of the brake pedal. On an MTX, it will be below the clutch pedal. The passenger side will be in the same position relative to the firewall and the outer kickpanel.

Projectsho,

I am sure that the subframe recall has not been done on my SHO, because I had owned her since day one. At the present time, I am continuously contacting the service advisor at Ford to get an update as to what he has to say.

Thanks to all who responded. I

Just got of the phone with the service advisor from Ford. He checked the "other side of his list - not in OASI" and he verified that the recall # 98S36 has already been done on my car on May of 1999. At that time, I had 54,500 miles on the odometer, which sounds about right. I feel much better now. :D

I beleive the recall on the Taurus is more related to where the car was driven, i.e. states that use salt in the winter vs say, Florida. My SHO is a 94, I told the AZ dealer that I was in Germany (Military) and that they use a lot of salt, they completed the recall and I eventually replaced all of the bushings at a later date. What a difference!
