Looking to do the Gen 3 rears on my 95 mtx and wanted to know if the the recall kits are needed or can be bypassed? I have done some searching on this and keep getting different answers. Also have read in a couple of threads that sopmething has to be notched? Any help would be awesome thanks

Being from Chicago is a dead giveaway. You'll need the recall kits. Get 2 of them.

the subframe does not get notched when I use G3 bushings. Instead, I shave off the little protrusions on the bushings. I just use a cutoff wheel and make them flush to the rest of the bushing.

The car may already have the recall done to it. Remove driver's (or passenger's) side carpet below the petals. If you see a large black rubber plug, the recall has been done. Where is the car from originally?

You know I always jump into shit head first I really need to do my research more in depth from now on..... Pulled back the carepet both side and found the black rubber plugs reachedd in the holes and felt the plate with the nut ******* I get ahead of myself.. Just because the front was done does that mean that the back was done also? I know I should just go ahead and check probably will after im done typing

That is the back...

The fronts had no recall kit. It can be a bit of a pain if the front nut spins, because there is little to no access.

Yeah just figured that out......Now that I feel really stupid...... I was thinking that was the front I have no idea why I thought the subframe would be that far back in the car!

yes, the recall kit will eventually rust out. yes, the bushings also rust out eventually. lastly, yes, the subframe rusts out too. when you remove the rusted bushings there may not be any subframe left to put the new bushings in, been there & done that. if you opt for new bushings that may be all you need if the bolt and top nut are still useable. good bushings don't need the bottom washer. FYI: the recall kit is new top nut, bolt, large 3.5" washer. the bushings are seperate items.

I got the Gen 3 rear subframe bushings mostly because I wanted to maintain a smooth ride. The roads are not the greatest where I am and the aluminum ones seemed like they would be harsher. Not to start a aluminum vs. rubber battle! we will se how much of the subframe is left once they come off hopefully it is good shape!
