Now this is insane! I installed Delrin bushings on the SHO about a month ago or so. When I tried to remove the left front bolt, it only came out 1/2 way and just freely spun. I later found the nut was all broken up and no longer holding still. Solution? I just heated the bolt head off and installed a 10.9 grade bolt w/ a nut and a couple of washers, including a lock washer. Now, I lifted my SHO up to do a quick retorque job and make sure all was snug. Well.. My right front one is starting to spin "freely" now too! Are the front nuts & bolts prone to the rusting apart problem as well? if so, how can I install the nuts for the bolts from the ford recall kit? Do they make one for the front?!

The front bolts aren`t long like the rear recall. They are more of a formed bracket. There is a slot in the subframe that you can get the rear type bolt thru. You may have to file them a bit,but they will squeeze in.My right front one broke apart in a 1-2 shift,so i guess they are a bit prone to breaking also. The damn SVO thought he beat me,and was even slowing down and speeding up to taunt me

Did i mention it was a hard 1-2 shift?

I got two recall kits and replaced all four bolts and their washers when I put in alum SFBs. The stock ones were all in rough shape but the rears were the worst on my car.

hey, how do you replace these nuts? When I was putting my subframe back up one started spinning freely, then the mechanic at the Ford dealer did the recall and said the nut was junk, and I was like, you didn't replace it??? Now the subframe is shifting when I launch hard, brake hard, turn hard... Should I go back to the dealer and have them replace it? Should they have?

The recall is for the rear nuts, but they are supposed to replace any part of it if it`s bad.If your subframe is shifting, they did something wrong.

very nice, yeah you should have heard the car at the strip, creaking and groaning, and also I got under there and foudn the subframe is not aligned anymore, so that's probably why my tire went south on me. Damn Ford dealers.

To get to the rear subframe nuts, you drill a 2.5 inch hole in the floorboards from the interior. That's what suppose to be done during the 98S36 rear subframe nut replacement recall. To check, peel the carpet back next to the wheelwell **** on both front floor pans. There should be a body plug that is in place covering the hole. If it is not there, the recall was not done correctly.

thanks. You damn well better believe I'll be out there ripping the carpet up tomorrow to find this out. And if they didn't do it.... oh boy, they are going to owe me a tire from how bad the alignment got F'ed up. I put it down to the cords in 1000miles.
