Hello, I just purchased a 98SHO from a Subaru dealership in Boardman, PA It, black with Grey interior and has about 70K on it. I wanted to know if the original owners on here, the Sales guys were not allowed to give me info due to privacy laws (understandable) Here is what he told me hes a older gentleman and he traded the SHO in for a Subaru wagon. I would like to know if the cams are welded, I don't drive my personal vehicles much as it is so thats not a problem if the car has to sit until I find out thats okay with me.

Thanks,
--Charlie

I dont know what its like in the states but here in Ontario, I can go down to the ministry of transportation and get a used vehicle sales package from them (sort of like the history of the car, how many owners, etc) but it has all the owners names on that report. All you need is the vin number. See if you can get the same sort of thing through your D.O.T office and then look him up in the phone book.

btw ask the salesman if he was the original owner or not.. If he is, I'd doubt they were welded. I got my car at 214,000 kilometers and they were not welded yet.

its a two owner vehicle, the first only had it for 12K then the second from 12K to 70K, I'm just going to pop off the front valve cover and do an inspection.

have the dealer do a car fax report.

it will give you the ownership info you need plus you will have a history on the car

I forgot to mention that I already had a carfax run before I purchased the car, like I said 12K for the first owner and then 12K-70K for the second owner. Its a 2-owner car, the guy was from cleveland and thats all he said besides he was a finatic and really didn't want to trade the car in, its well taken cared for and very clean for 70K. But that doesnt mean anything to me, i'm just going to take off the valve covers and look for myself, its not really a huge task for me!

In Illinois the ownership of the car from start to you is a public record that the Sec. of State will provide.

I tried that, the salesman was very clear and serious about the privacy law in Ohio. But I'm really not that worried I will take the front valve cover off and if its not welded then I'm taking it somewhere and will not drive it until that time. I don't drive my personal cars much anyway, I always manage to get a exempt sticker for the PA inspection! I'm just going to have a hard time finding a place that has a good reputation around me since rickety has closed, I'm calling him tomorrow anyway. Any input on good services near me guys/girls please let me know! Thanks!!
