Hey guys, i just installed a kicker 6.5" sub and it distorts liek ****, I checked to make sure the phase was correct which it is. The sub is a kicker 2ohm. What is the stock sub ohmed at? Sadly enough i have to turn the bass all the way down so it doesn't sound like crap. The blown stock sub sounded 100X better. Any Suggestions?

Replace the amp. There's no way the stock amp will be stable down to 2 ohms. I think the stock sub is 6 ohms.

would it be simpler to just buy a 4ohm sub? if not what amp would you recommend to use with the stock wiring?

I have an old 4ohm sub in my car and it sounds ok. I think the stock amp doesnt do it justice but what do you expect with mixing a newish sub with 16 year old sound equipment. I am in the process of building up a setup. It maybe your best bet. Craigslist is always an option which i cruise through periodically to see anything striking my fancy that doesnt shout out stolen. You can try the 4 ohm mine is also an 8''. Had to modify the box a bit to make it work. Good luck.

I'd go on CL and get an amp that is 2ohm stable, and try to stay away from brands like pyramid, jensen, etc....
