I have a 94 ATX which has the following problem; “stutters” at part throttle, under load; seems very prevalent under load, has poor fuel economy (14mpg), has poor acceleration, Demonstrated loss of power from 1500 to 3500 rpm, When driving at part throttle, the 1 – 2 shift car feels like the front end is dropping into a hole although not as bad since changing TPS, stutter does not happen with car in neutral or park.

Car to Mel Hambelton Ford "Wichita,KS" Performed Computer Diagnostic (was told car had good Fuel pressure & Good Spark) {Cost $371.00 to R&R EGR Sensor :bonk: } They thought possibly the MAF was Bad?
7/23/05
Purchased Salvage MAF from 5spd car (Installed – No Difference)
7/24/05
Purchased Remanufactured MAF from Advance Auto Parts (Installed – No Difference)
8/8/05 Gas Fill-up 13 gal @ 196 mi **14mi/gal}

Went back to dealer to discuss problem and the feeling is not a warm fuzzy, essentially they want nothing more to do with the car unless I am willing to throw obscene amounts of money their way!

Went to Private Repair shop after listening to Fuel Injectors which sounded okay, suggested replacing O2 sensors (purchased 8/18/05, installed 8/19/05) – Thought it made a difference, but there was No Difference

After talking to SHO Shop I Performed diagnostic w/ code reader – No Codes,
Ran cylinder balance test four times (code results “9” – All okay),
Tried disconnecting MAF plug; condition worsened, reattached MAF plug
Have suggestion of checking coil pack, plug wires, spark plugs "I Have not done this yet"
8/30/05
R& R Throttle position sensor - Slight difference but still running very rich and had trouble starting when hot.
The car seems to be running very rich and feels thready in the forementioned RPM range. I have tried about everything I can think of short of using a thermonuclear device. I welcome any suggestions, I even have a CD manual but have yet to find any answers on it.

From what I know, that sounds like you need to put in new plugs and wires, and clean out the plug wells really good, probably oil in them causing the problem. My car has a similiar problem, and I can't see any other reason then unwanted oil going into the intake or screwing up the plugs and wires.

Wtf?!?!

I know that I'd rather work on my car myself, but if the time came, I'd prefer to take it to a dealer. But what is up with our cars and the dealers? They treat them like they never had anything to do with them, but before the warranty expired, they would have been all over them.

I'm done ranting now.

I second the plugs/wires/plugwell seals response

I forgot to mention that I do have new plugs and wires they were changed about 3 mos ago. As for the coil pack I know where I can get a salvage unit from a 5spd but the dilemma is how do I check mine and how do I check to salvage unit to see if they are good?

My 1989 had some of the similiar issues, stuttering below 3500rpm, poor fuel economy, hard starting. Had Ford garage check and they found couple of problems. Changed the crank sensor, MAF connector and new fuel pump. Problem solved.

you changed the plugs and wires, but is there oil in the wells? that will still create a problem. you can call around...most major auto parts places can test the coil pack for you. you might have to take it out, or a good electrical-focused shop can test it for you. try injector cleaner and maybe cleaning your intake...that can cause issues when it hasnt been cleaned for at least 60 k!

No, there is not any oil in the wells. when I changed out the valve cover gaskets/seal I cleaned out the wella with paper shop towels. While I had the intake off I cleaned it and decoked it as well. Like I said I have tried just about everything.
