Working on a 93MTX, came to me with 6 FULL spark plug wells, and wouldn't really run other than idle. The spark plug wire boots were cracked so I figured that's what was causing it. Full 60k was done, motorcraft plugs gapped at .042". Now you'll start it up and it purrs, then you start to rev it and it almost feels like you're hitting the rev limiter. Put it in gear and try to go and it just chokes and pops. The timing is correct and I changed the fuel filter to be safe. Any ideas?

Whats the fuel pressure?

I would also suspect the CID sensor. When mine was going weird...it would run fine untill I put a load on the motor and then it would like you said just hit a wall and not do a thing except stumble.

Edit: After that I would look into the TPS....

I'll check that too Fred but the exhaust flow seemed pretty healthy. I guess I should add too that I towed this car in, and the current owner never saw it drive I don't believe. So I have no idea of previous problems or anything.

What about the MAF? You try switching that out? Although it wasn't consistent, sometimes under acceleration, my MTX would hit a brick wall, then take off like a bat out of ****. I swapped the MAF out with a known good one, and the problem was solved.

Sounds like a poor ground to one of the ignition components. Have you verified the rear ground is firmly connected and the crossover bolts are tight?

it'll rev up to about 3k with no load, any further it chokes. Throw it in gear and try to move around and it just chokes and pops. Bob, I don't think there's any leaks, when I say this engine purrs at idle I'm not kidding. Not a sound. Mikey, I just did a 60k so the grounding is always something I'm aware of. :thumb:
