Well, today when I went to start my SHO, it wouldn't. The battery was at about 12.6 volts, I had gas, and the starter was fine. Eventually, after sitting for about a 1/2 hour (now it sat for half the day before the problem appeared), the engine finally turned with ease. I'm guessing this is related somehow to the stuck throttle issue (other ideas: clogged fuel line/filter or flooded engine), does anybody know?

I'm not sure I know what you mean... my definition of "turning over" is the starter engages and rotates the crankshaft as is if to start the engine. Is this what's happening?

I don't think a stuck throttle would prevent the engine from starting.

I mean that the starter is attempting to start the engine (the starter is fine), but the engine simply won't start. No unusual noises or anything. I suspect there may be something with the fuel system that perhaps caused this throttle issue (the engine would rev a little when I pressed the clutch in) and may have also flooded the engine. I'm not quite sure myself at this point, this problem will require some examination.

Do you hear the fuel pump run for a short time after you turn the key on? Have you checked for any fault codes in the computer?

There has always been a sound of a motor running for about 1-2 seconds when I turn the key. As for codes, I'll have to check that tomorrow and see what happens.

Btw, I may have misdescribed the stuck throttle problem. It's more like when I press the clutch in, the engine revves a little bit. I don't think I'm pressing the gas in either to do it, unless I'm pressing it more than usual to get normal performance (but I don't think so).

Also, the mechanic down the street thinks it may be a motor mount. I'll try the SHOTimes bad mount detection stuff tomorrow. Any thoughts?

Pat,

For the speed problem when pushing in the clutch look at the VSS.

Now, if the engine is truly flooded, which seems to happen a lot to me, just put the gas to the floor and crank. It should turn right over and go.

I doubt that your engine is flooded. I would look at a CAM position sensor or something obvious, like the DIS being unplugged. :p

You're probably right, it wasn't flooded, because I put the gas down all the way, and it still wouldn't start.

Someone else suggested vapor lock to me, as my car sits in the sun.

I have to disagree with vapor lock being the problem...unless the fuel pump is extremely weak, if that was the case I don't think it would ever start.
Mine sits outside in the sun all day too and it starts.
Does your tach "bounce" when you try to start the engine?

Yes, it was bouncing when I was trying to start it. But, today, it started some 5-6 times fine (first time struggled slightly).

I ran the EEC test, and nothing bad apparently. It repeats the codes sometimes, right? (is 1-1-1-1 just 11, or "ok"?)

I went for a drive around, and the problem seems to have gotten better. The throttle only held itself up heavily once, and a little another time. Perhaps it is something in the fuel system, as it was cooler today? I think I'm going to ttry and replace the fuel filter, which is probably as old as the car! eek! And I think the motor mounts are fine, I tested them, no raised up motor! thumbs_u

sunny San Juan Bautista,
It will repeat each series of code numbers twice. So for that section the 1-1-1-1 is just 11 twice meaning no problems found during that portion of the test.

Someone correct me if I'm not interpreting this correctly. I just started reading codes on my SHO this last July.

BTW Rendx, i loved the movie...anything else coming out like it?
Thanks! No, not very soon. I do have some ideas, maybe an SHO commercial or action short movie. I may also be releasing the earlier versions of the video, so people can see where it came from.
