Strut brackets 1F2Z-5304-AB

Does anyone know this part number ? It is listed for 92 to 98 taurus. I saw it on eBay parts but had trouble bringing it up on rock auto. What exactly is the part? I ask as I came across it from parts from a liquidated Ford dealer locally.

Looks like a strut spring shield. I remember there being a recall on early Gen4 Tauri, to stop broken springs from puncturing tires or something. I can't seem to find anything regarding 92-98 tho.

Not necessarily, but I don't know for sure. That could just mean the eBay seller used "Windstar" as a convenient/most popular application; it might have been too much work for them to find/put in the full fitment list. Ford could have easily used the same part on a wide variety of models. That works to the benefit of us SHO owners. If the part isn't SHO specific, it is easier to obtain. That is likely why Tasca has 354 of them in stock (at a price of $97.52).

shows the fitment as 1992-1998 Taurus and Sable. All trim levels seem to be included. Interestingly, Windstar isn't mentioned. The eBay seller may have gotten fitment completely wrong. That isn't anything new. Even Rock Auto occasionally gets SHO fitment information wrong - probably because they get vague or incorrect information from the part manufacturer.

My Gen 1 isn't part of the fitment list, so I haven't seen it either. It is billed as a "kit" which might mean it was part of a service advisory that could be added by the service department to address a specific issue. I'm still trying to figure out where they fit. I agree that it probably has something to do with the suspension, but I can't imagine if they are for the front or back.

My best guess is that this is a shield to prevent a broken spring from puncturing a tire. IIRC, there was a problem with corrosion and breaking springs in the northern states. It mounts to the to two holes circled in red and cups the bottom of the spring perch and the bottom coils of the spring.

Interesting. I've never seen those on any of the GenI-III either.

Apparently this is a Windstar part, not a Taurus part. There was\is a recall to prevent tire damage from a broken spring. Separately, there was an extended warranty for broken springs.

Regardless what some online parts catalog says, let's break down the part number.
1 = 2001 (Because that was when the recall was issued and the part designed)
F2 = Windstar
Z = Ford service part

So the part was designed for a Windstar. It may fit a pre 96 Taurus. It will not fit a 96 plus Taurus. The 96 plus Taurus strut is a different design.
