I have a strong fuel smell coming from the engine when driving sometimes and most of the time when I stop after a drive on the highway. Any ideas on what that might be?
Also the car sometimes decides to start then die right after starting. I am lost on what this might be.

Look over all the fuel lines and try and locate the exact source of the smell. I found a pinhole fuel line leak that was spraying a small stream of fuel about 3 feet. You car is a rolling bomb if you have a leak like this. Do not dismiss this problem, you might be sorry!

I had a similar thing happen to my 89'. I had a pinhole leak in one of the fuel lines near the front of the car where the guard comes over. It was caused because a piece of gravely got up in there and fractured the line. So I would definitely check that spot for problems. If it is there just put in a splice with a piece of rubber line = problem solved! ;)

There is actually a TSB for this. The smell is coming from the evap. purge canistor under your pass seat (under the vehicle). The TSB states to relocate the canistor to the rear of the vehicle as well as the kit needed to perfrom relocation.

I had this problem, the fuel pressure dampener thats bolted onto the fuel rail had begun to leak gas from the little plastic ****** in the center of it. I got one from the boneyard for 5 bucks and took me an hour to replace along with a fuel pressure regulator. check it out, start the car and then look at the fuel pressure regulator's and the dampener's little plastic ******.
