Dealing with my 93 MTX. After she is driven for a little while, I can start to smell raw fuel. I did a little searching and I am thinking the carbon canister could be at fault. It is surely from under the hood area, as when I open the hood the smell is much stronger. Are there any ways to check this. Also, things like fuel injector o-rings, fuel rail, fuel lines are all dry.

Tooled around over there. Do you have a general direction for me to look in?

I had an issue with the schrader valve on the fuel rail. The little screw-in valve had come loose, and I was leaking fuel from there. Tightened up the valve and everything's been fine since.

As stated above, there is no leaking at the rail or injectors. The valve is dry too.

Are the connections from the fuel line to the fuel rail dry? Those O-rings can dry and cause a slight leak.

I remember people having problems with the evap canister's smelling like fuel and causing problems. IIRC, replacement was the fix.

My 92 had the same problem. I found that keeping the gas above 1/2 tank on hot days cured it. At or below 1/4 and 90 degrees used to emit huge amounts of fumes. Something about vapor pressure, volume above the fuel level, and an in-adequate vapor recpvery system.

What the **** is a charcoal gas fume canister? This is most likely the reason I'm getting fumes too? :oogle:

The charcoal vapor recovery canister and the canister purge valve are the 2 places I would begin looking. My purge valve took a shit, and I was getting absurd amounts of fuel vapor when it was warmer than 50º outside.
