I've stripped the carpet, seats, foam, (trying to strip sound/temp stuff as well), and I'm wondering...what else is there that I can strip out of the SHO that doesn't HAVE to be there.

Like...is there anything in the engine bay that can be taken out that doesn't have to be there? Is there anything I can bypass and take out? Thanks so much for your help.

Ahh...another Texan. Did you strip the door panels, speakers, radio, console, door panel insulation, head liner, sun visors, trimming, trunk bedding, glove box, ect, and ect. If you really want to get to detail I can list more like antenna, center caps, all the little pieces off the dash board that can be snapped off or unscrewed off, drain all the wiper fluid, strut tower covers, ect, and ect.

Did I go a little to crazy there for you thumbs_u

All the little weight adds up eventually. I haven't got that much off yet and you can already see the better times listed below from the strippng.

**** if you need to know more I can keep listing like fog lights, TB cover, coil pack cover, a/c system, factory amp, back mat on back window board deal, rubber mat underneath back mat, metal frame back speaker holders, and ect. :D

How far do you want to go? shrug

I can't go TOO far. I'm trying to keep it LOOKING as stock as possible. For instance, I plan on putting the carpet back in. I will also put the back seat back in eventually as well, but I'm going to strip out a lot of the back seat weight. I'm putting some different seats in from a different car that are lighter weight.

So yes, the car will be going back together...sort of. But a lot of dead weight will be stripped off of it when it does. I want to drop at least 250-300 lbs when I get it all back together looking fairly stock again.

The ultimate sleeper looks completely stock, even when stripped. :)

That's going to be hard to do. I don't know how it can be done, but I think I seen Mark N. post about this and he did the same and dropped a lot of weight. Now I don't know how much weight, but the only way I can think of dropping that much is by completly stripping it an that will drop about par with the weight you where talking about. One thing I know Mark did was take out the power things and put in manuals, like the seats and things. I don't know shrug I don't see why it won't be a sleeper, just tint it with 5% all around like me thumbs_u Then people can't see in and wonder where your interior is. boink

I need to be able to sell the car in the future if I want to get rid of it and get a new project, though. So...I need to be able to put everything back so that it at least looks stock. That's my only beef with pulling EVERYTHING out. I've already dropped 250-300 lbs by stripping the interior and trunk and full-sized spare. But I have to put the seats back unless I get ligher weight seats. And since the carpet doesn't weigh anything without the padding, it can go back in. Just have to figure out how to strip as much "unseen" weight as I can.

I think I'm going to literally cut the insides of the doors out, then possibly put the covers back over them again. Drop some metal weight. We'll see.

Thanks.

T-Bird,

Thanks for the weights. I appreciate it. I think I'm going to leave the A/C & Heater intact for the moment. However, I like the information on the seat weights and sound system.

I will be using seats out of a 2nd Gen Rx7 Turbo II. They're MUCH less weight. They would drop at least 30-40 lbs off of each seat. I will lose nearly 100 lbs just switching to Rx7 seats if I'm informed correctly on the seat weights.

Thanks!

Find a junked Taurus L and swap out all the light optionless stuff (crank windows, low lever rear deck trim ect) with your heavy optioned out stuff.

'91 SHO with stock slicers. 20 lbs isn't bad for stock rims actually. However, if I could get 12lbs rims and smaller tires, I'd go for it in a heartbeat because that would reduce the weight of the car over 40 lbs roughly and reduce the sprung weight dramatically. I will be looking into that in the future, thanks.

Is it 20-21lbs? I've read that its a bit less like 17-18lbs? Because even my 18x8's are 24lbs each, which is still heavy, my next set of 18x8's will be 16.8lbs each thumbs_u

I've always heard they weigh 20-21 lbs. And that sounds right for how they feel.

jedhead:
Remove all the body panels and have them acid dipped.

Bob
That's TOO funny. I'll be sure to do that tomorrow. hehehe

You know...honestly...if you were to do this, then resand and repaint the body, it would reduce the weight somewhat decently. But that's ludicrous! Who the **** wants to remove ALL the body panels and have'em acid dipped?? I guess someone that's painting their car would possibly. :) Where this was a joke or not, thanks none the less.

A racing team back in the late 80s, I think, raced Camaros that they had acid dippped. It was found out by other teams and it was made illegal the next year. I know they got a significant weight loss by doing it.
