Title says it all. The mounting point on the tranny where the rod shifter support rod attaches is stripped clean. It looks like I need a helicoil kit or the shifter boss brace? What is my best option? I am kinda pressed for both time and $$ on this one. What size are the threads anyway?

Thanx

I'm quite certain that you're not the only one that's had this problem. Try a search in this section and see what you come up with. Here's one post as a start.

stock bolt size is 12m x 1.75 and you will need a helicoil kit.

I bought a few extra long bolts as the tranny has about 1/4 of an inch of unused threads that the stock bolt never see's.

If you want one of those PM me and ill send you one for a few bucks. Still going to need to helicoil it though.

I'd go with what Eric recommended. I had a similar problem, but I was able to just use a longer then stock piece of threaded rod and 2 nuts. I didn't need to use a helicoil. I'm probably going to switch to just a nylock nut instead, if I can find one that size.

I wouldnt be too confident in just the bolt alone.

Maybe with alot of thread locker and soft shifts you could get a few months out of it until a planned clutch/tranny job.

But indefinatly the entire boss will be too weak and youll need to helicoil.

I wouldn't recommend using any bolt that's not hardened if you plan on leaving it in there a while. I had allthread in mine for a while, and we were shocked to see how much it flexed with normal shifting. I've got extra bolts, too if you need one. Mine are a bit longer than stock, though, but are grade 8 hardened 12mm bolts.

I think mine are 150mm long if I remember right. I know it took a couple washers on the bolt to keep it completely tight. I overkilled it a bit.

At least you were able to get a regular bolt. I could only find hex head  ... but they work.

Eric,

Do you still have any of those extra long bolts? Mine is helicoiled, but I would like the extra insurance.

Thanks

Let me know how much you want for it and I will send money right away.
