Hello, Im new here and have a '96.
She broke down on me last week.
Afrer pulling the front (bank 2?) cam cover, I see that the intake cam is ..stripped?..inside the gear. (gear to cam)
I see the line up dots on the 2 cam gears that the chain runs on to connect the 2 cams and can set the engine up to TDC.
BUT
With the engine having been turned over with that intake can not moving obveiousley the intake cam is out of time.
Praying that I don't have a bent valve..(the cam was at rest with no valves open & I need a cam anyway) I want to set up the cam into the correct position and weld that intake gear back on and try her, before pulling the cyl. head if I can get away with this.

Anyone know if there are any marks, dowels...inside the gear/cam or ways of putting that intake cam back to TDC before welding?

Any help would be great!

Thanks Mark Hatheway

You should do a search on this site, and then on V8SHO.com for V8 Cam failures.

So sorry you had to find out about this issue like this. :frown:

Assuming that the cam has stopped and the crank has turned more than about 60 degrees with the cam not turning you have bent valves.

Repairing that cam is not a good option. you can buy one from Ford still I believe.

If your interested Mark H, I have a spare front intake cam that I would be more than willing to sell. It isn't welded, but with it removed that wouldnt be a huge issue

It can be repaired. If it just spun at low RPM, I have seen some that were so stripped that you cant.

Like Beaker said they are available at FORD but there are plenty of us that have them, and why give Ford any money for a product that will strip again unless you weld it. I have seen very few maybe 3-5 out of 200 that did not bend valves on a spun cam car.

I sell them welded for 100.00 and have about 200 cams in stock.
