O.K. - Sorry if this is really dumb but I haven't seen it while searching... Should the transmission be in any gear or in neutral when removing for a clutch job?

The cars on jack-stands, newly built (pipe) engine support installed, y-pipe, starter, wiring all removed / out of the way. Next is the suspension parts removal before dropping the sub-frame. (I'm referencing the Ford manual, SHOPhoenix / and SHOForum write-ups)

Just ordered: rear main seal, strut rod bushings, catted y-pipe, 02 sensors, cable shifter bushings and SHO mechanics tee shirt. I have a new cable, stock clutch & pressure plate already.

Wish me luck!

Thanks to SHOForum... w/o y'all I'd NEVER attempt somthing this difficult.

Just in from disassembly... I really have a ton of respect for you guys that can do all the great mods & maintenance on these (or any) cars. It aint easy!
The good news is the sub-frame is out. Engine hanging O.K. and I was able to remove all the fasteners w/o any breaking.
I'll post a few pics later with some questions on what y'all recommend for solutions.
The bad... how in the **** am I going to put it all back together again?
Won't be able to get back to if for a few days...
Thanks again for the answers above... even the sarcastic ones I appreciate. You want to know how to do something find someone that knows how to do what you want done.

See this is my fear too, it's not that I'm afraid of getting dirty, nor is it about breaking something... I'm afraid I'm going to forget the order of stuff going back together and get to the end and have important stuff left. I fear that would deflate much of the pride of accomplishment... like on the third time!!!

Ya, both were ordered last week & on the way! I don't think I'll change the rod bearings since only 71,000 miles on it. Will do them when the 120k service comes up.

Uh-oh... dumb me. Over a month or so ago I ordered a "closeout stock clutch" from rockauto which is 9 1/4" thinking the car was still on it's original clutch. (it was only about $70) I was wrong & it has a 9 3/4" clutch. (that doesn't look too bad btw) I'm guessing I'll need to now spend a least a few hundred more for a better clutch set. oh well... live & learn!

I'd do the rod bearings now.

There have been instances where the bearings have let go at 70,000 miles. It's cheap insurance, and only an additional 90 minutes to do the bearings.
