Stock V8 SHO goes 15.1 :)

Well, to make a long story short, a buddy and I got into this huge argument on how his 3.5L Aurora could beat a V6 SHO. After ripping out his spare tire along with an empty tank of gas, he then pulled off a 15.3 @94mph with the good ol G-Tech. Now I couldn't accept the fact that he was in V6 SHO territory, so I then "borrowed" (don't ask, haha) a V8 SHO with 100k miles for the day to prove him wrong. Lucky for me, it was an ET happy 20* outside, and I was able to get a best of 15.1 @93mph! Here is the graph with the Aurora's run right next to it:

Outside temp: 20*
Tire psi: 30
Spare tire: negative
Gas level: below empty
Driver weight: 165



Oh, and for those that don't think the new G-Tech is accurate, you might want to read into them. This G-Tech was tested on over 6 cars the same day after those 6 ran at KC, and every car was within a tenth of what they actually ran at the track! That day made me a believer.

sweet! but i have never heard of a stock v8 goin 15.1 id be a beleiver if you took that to the track and ran the same time or maybe 15.2 also most of the time you can get better traction on the street rather than on the track

Very true, but I guess that is a very debatable subject. There have been some days where I've gotten the same traction as I have at the track, and other days where I had to adjust the tire pressure 3 or 4 times before I could get it locked down.

Another point would be that this SHO barely spins off the line, so the traction differences really wouldn't apply to this car. You have t keep in mind though that every single racing condition was to an advantage, which is why it ran what it did. There was cold weather, light (160lb) driver, no gas, good traction etc...

We actually made over 6 passes of 15.50 or better with the Aurora, and it actually got about 1 tenth slower for every 10-15 degrees warmer it was outside. After all of the different situations we tried with the Aurora, including running the car in 50 degree weather, 20 degree weather, full tank, empty tank, spare tire, no spare tire, tire pressure, and our results were very accurate every time for each change. The SHO was no different. Its actually really amazing how well the G-Tech shows what affects a car's performance.

I belive it. The V8's performance is very sensitive to ambient air temps. Had it been a hot summer day, I don't think the Aurora would have been affected as much as the SHO. I think the V8 got the benefit of the cool weather. 0-60 in 6.8 is good.

I don't see how one couldn't under those conditions. The trap was right there. ****, I ran a 15.0 @93mph with a bone stock ATX 93 SHO at Scribner drag strip here in NE, and this SHO was trapping the same speed, so why couldn't it run a 15.1?

I ran a 14.9 with a K&N drop in filter and weight reduction. If I could ever find a track open when it's that cold I bet it would go a few tenths faster still.

No back seat or spare in my case anyway(60/40 split seat is quite heavy). My '97 ran 14.8 with a 103 tune and exhaust(to mention effective mods) and that was at 1200ft alt.

I think any V8 in good running order should run 15.0-15.3 on a resonably cool day at sea level.

Just clearing things up. A weight reduction in my world when I had my 92 SHO was everything except a steering wheel, seat, and gauges.

Damn that was a fun car. I dropped a total of 400 lbs when I was done.

Lol, damnit. I didn't say anything about that because I don't know Speedie all that well, and I didn't want him freaking out that I test raced his old car. haha

But hey, sometimes you just have to go that extra mile in order to stick up for the SHO and prove your point.
