Something to throw in that I recently came across.
Thermostats perform a simple function. The main goal is to allow the engine to warm up quickly, and then open at predetermined temperature and keep the engine a normal operating temperature. This opening is not instantaneous to full open. Typically a thermostat opens then takes 10* to 20* in temperature rise to fully open. Thermostats vary by manufacture in their initial opening and progression to full open, even if they rated for the same temperature. It is important to realize the temperature on a thermostat is the point when it STARTS to open and NOT the fully open temperature.
