Ive got a blown subwoofer, and was wondering what is the best thing to do; go with a new ford replacement, or aftermarket, Id really like to keep the sub where it is. If I have to go with an aftermarket, which one? and what is nessasary to run an aftermarket sub off the stock JBL sound system? Either way Id really like to keep the sub out of the way like it is when it is stock. Iver read somewhere that you can use the stock sub box with an aftermarket sub? Anymore information and solutions would be great! Thanks Guys

You can do either. In my '93 with the JBL system, I replaced the sub with a JL Audio unit in the stock sub box. I think the sub speaker was about $65. On my '96 with the JBL system, I replaced the amp with a nice Alpine and then added a nice 10" tubed sub. This runs more... In my '91 Plus with the JBL system - I've gone comepletely aftermarket for many reasons.

If you want to go the cheap route here is what you do:

Usuallly, a blown stock subwoofer means that the foam surround has ripped or disintegrated. If you go to a good speaker shop or sometimes on ebay you can find a 6-1/2" foam surround for sale for around $10.00. Just scrape away the old surround and re-glue a new one to the speaker cone. The only trick is to make sure that the cone is centered around the pole on the inside coil, so that when the speaker cone moves up and down, it doesn't hit on any side. You can use almost any glue as long as it is flexible when it dries.

What i ended up doing was getting rid of the Silver JBL amp and wiring a 240 watt Pioneer amp up there. Then at first i just had in a 12" with a box in there.. real cheap and simple. depending on how much your willing to spend.
Iv since swapped out the 240 for a 1200 watt and put in 2 12" W7's
which is MORE BASS than any car ever needs.. but i still want more..

if u want somthing that sounds good put in one 8inch kicker comp c88 with a little 150 watt amp u choose the brand depending on ur budget but for 200 bucks u could have a nice bit of mid bass. If you do get a replacement aftermarket just make sure it is meant for free air mounting
