I was wondering if there's an easy way to use an external amplifier with the stock system. I don't have the JBL and I'd like a bit more bass in my jams. A friend of mine is gonna hook me up with an amp and it only has RCA style inputs.

You can do that pretty easily...all you have to do is buy a converter (they range from 10 to like 30 bucks) at almost any car audio place. All it does it take a left and right speaker input (left and right rear usually) and converts it to an RCA output that you can connect that to the input of your new amp. Just run the speaker level inputs to your rear speakers, it wont hurt anything.

Let me know if that made sense....going on no sleep here...

or you can find the stock amplifier output wires and wire those directly to the input on the amp(I'm not talking about the RCA inputs either)... I did this to mine. I found the wires for the sub amp(In a '91 shrug ) and wired it up to my Speaker input right above my speaker output... I still have my stock amp for my front speakers though...
