I have a 93 and it came w/ the cd plyer so you must have a faceplate cover where my cd is. If not another option would be to keep the factory radio and get a RF modulator disk changer and stash it somewhere that it couldnt be seen. That way the bad guys would just think you have a factory radio and pass on by. It worked with my last car even when a half dozen other cars were broken into one weekend... mine wasnt bothered!

I have a nice 12 disc changer already, except the first time they broke into my car, they stole the damn remote. So now its useless.

well what you would need to find is the "jumper" wire that connects the slave cd player to the tapedeck/radio. Apparently these are hard to find. I know on the Gen I's that some cd players won't work with some head units... idk if that is true for the Gen II's.

Don't take my word, but i also believe that all the radios in the SHO's are capable of having a cd player added if it was not there to begin with. One thing you may need to look for is a harness coming out of the main harness that connects to the radio... this harness is black, and has like a red/orange "tip" at the end wher it plugs into the cd player.

so this is what you need to look for.

1. the "extra" harness with the red/orange tip that isn't being in use... ( rectangle ) in the radio harness

2. the "jumper" that connects the radio to the cd player ( 8 pin?? ) you need to find/buy that.

3. there is a ground cable that snaps on to the back of the radio and teh cd player... i'm guessing for noise cancelation or what not??

well that's what i have to say... some one correct me if I am wrong on any of this...

Here is what you need to add a CD player:

1) A tape deck that has a "jumper plug" in the upper 6 pin connector. If it has no plug and it currently works you will have to do internal modification to get it to work.

2) A slave CD player. Any should work but you should try and get the newest one that you can get. Ford stopped using them in '99 so try and get one of those, especially if you burn your own CDs.

3) The 6 pin communication cable. It plugs into the Tape deck where the jumper plug is at.

4) The 6 pin (5 wires) power cable. You will have to tap into the existing power wires if you cannot get the "dealer installed" version of the cable.

5) Optional: the ground cable between the 2 units. You can easlly make one of these if you cannot find one.

6) If you are installing 2nd gen head units into a 1st gen car you will need the main JBL amp (the sub amp does not need to be changed). 2nd gen head units won't turn on the 1st gen amp, there turn on is 5v and the amp need 12v. Also you will either need to modify the plastic radio bezel or get a 2nd gen one for the head units to lock into place.

I read a trick that you could take power from the power antenna for the main power, doing so i was able to use a GEN II head unit and cd slave in my gen 1.

I had my 2nd gen head units hooked up with my first gen amp for a while with just a switch to turn the amps on. It was not the best set up but it worked. I never though of using the antenna feed though, thats a good idea.

you could always grab one of the cd player factory wiring harnesses too. It connects inbetween the factory head harness and the head unit and splits off to the cd unit. I was lucky enough to grab one when I picked my cd slave unit up. Make's the whole wiring a snap.
