I have noticed that the fluid goes into a separate cooler as well as into the radiator. Would it be a good idea to bypass the radiator altogether and just use the stock cooler w/ a high flow cfm fan?

I had an aftermarket cooler put in after the stock cooler...so far it seems to be working out great. I couldn't tell you what kind of a difference it makes because I also had a rebuild at the time it was put in

So that's a total of three coolers? Wouldn't that drop the fluid pressure?

it would cool it a LOT. Once automatic trannies fluid gets to about 220 degrees, it starts to break down. thats when the tranny starts to die. The cooler the better!

Did Y'all know that on ATX's there's a bypass for the tranny cooler so that the fluid doesn't even go into the cooler. I think I want to get rid of this.

slosho, what bypass are you talking about? Could you elaborate? I was thinking of adding a larger cooler to replace the stock one, any ideas, suggestions?

Maybe the bypass is there to make sure that the trans fluid gets warmed up in very cold weather? I know the fluid should go through the radiator cooler first and then through the aux cooler because the radiator would exchange less heat than the aux cooler.

Wait, come again? It should get "warmed up"? How about when it's already warmed up? What then?

I don't know, I was asking. Maybe it works like a thermostat that opens and closes a bypass valve. They have those for oil coolers so the oil temperature stays high enough in severely cold conditions. What do you think?

From what I can tell from looking at it, it just looks like a junction block. It may be a metering device or some temp unit but I don't know. Look at yours and tell me what you think.
