I'm assuming it currently has ATX fluid in it? (I only ask because I've had mechanics offer to top off the MTX with 90 weight ****!)
If the fluid is ok, it sounds like the trans may have been ran low on fluid.
Does it get worse after it heats up?

I have a sho+ and i had a similar problem, and my wheels locked up while driveing. It turned out to be a bearing ate it, due to lack of fluid some how. The lock up of the tires was due to one of the little rollers out of the bearing got stuck in the gears, not good, but luckly did not break any teeth. When one of the bearings wears out, things get sloppy in there, the differential almost ground a hole though the case, and the gears don't line up so well, I am not sure if this is the problem, but it was mine, the problem is finding the obsolete bearing.
