My 97 has started having problems with the tachometer, when it's cold the tach doesn't move, once warmed up it moves (stiffly and slowly at first) eventually responding like it's supposed to, I sometimes wonder if the heat gauge isn't reading correctly either. My question is, would this be a sending unit problem?? A gauge pod problem (somebody put one of those carbon fiber trimmed pods in it)?? Or something more severe?? If it is the gauge pod, how difficult is it to change these out?? As I've been considering that option before the tach issue. I did a search of previously posted threads for "tachometer" and couldn't find much help. Thanks in advance for any assistance, it is greatly appreciated.

:thankyou:

The clusters are easy to change. Maybe a 1/2 hour. You have to get one for the right year though due to plug changes on the back.

Are the clusters SHO specific or will a cluster out of a SLO work?? Not that it's a big deal, but how do you change the mileage on the replacement to match what the current one has?? Thanks again for your help

The SHO has a higher tach and speedo.

You can replace the sppedo/odo with the one from your old cluster.

It seems to me that it's more of a gray faced gauges, when illuminated you have the option of blue or green back light. I just know it's not the factory pod, is there more than one factory issued pod??

This may be true for the entire cluster, but the tachometer "module" in the cluster I believe will interchange over at least some of the years. I know it will interchange between 98 and 99 as we had a tach get sticky in the3K - 5K range in the 99. I replaced that tach module with one fromt eh boneyard out of a 98. Left the orange needle from the 98 too. All the other needles in the 99 are red. Just looks intriguing.
