When my JBL went out, it drove me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong. Eventually, I determined that my CD player was causing the problem (no sound). Simply dis-connecting the CD player still didn't allow the stereo to work. I was losing my mind because I like the factory look and impressive sound from the JBL's. After much thought, I caved.

I broke down and decided to upgrade. But, and I stress but, I wanted to retain my factory amps and speakers. I attempted to use the speaker harness that is supposed to by-pass the amps. It didn't work so I used this part and now can use all the factory components.

The sound is incredible. I'm an old heavy metal, hair band lover and I don't need 6 sub woofers.

The stereo I chose was the DUAL XDVD from Walmart for $198.00. All I needed was the in-line adaptor and harness adaptor. The final look was impressive and all I had to do was cut the cross bar that separates the radio and CD player. I think it looks and sounds great. I hope this helps anyone on the fence about this topic.

Let me know what you think. The hardest part was getting the trim out.

Looks like a worthwhile upgrade :thumb: May do something similar myself someday, what with the cassette player on the fritz.

I simply connected my head unit to stock wiring with an adapter to the head unit, got the adapter from wal mart. Works like a charm and sounds awesome!

The Blue Thing in the 3rd picture:Scosche SLC4 Speaker Level Converter - $18.00 Walmart.

You simply screw the speakers out from the Stereo head (which should be already attached to the Metra Ford adaptor) to the 8 "in" slots on the top of the adaptor. Then you use the 8 "out" lower slots that go into the harness adaptor to the thick gray amp cable.

If you are trying to use a radio with an internal amp, it will interfere with the JBL amps and sound like ****.

If your unsure what I'm saying, let me know and I will post more detailed pictures.

did you use any other trim adapter?

does it fit firmly? how were you able to make it fit in place and not move/slide out?

No adapter, all I needed was the wire harness. Very snug, trim plate easy to take off then it slides out with harness keys that came with the radio
