stereo install question

Put a sony headunit in my 93 and followed a set of instruction here on the board showing how to bypass the speaker amp but retain the sub amp. Followed everything and can't get the sub amp to power on. I put RCA ends on the amp cable and plugged them into my preout on the headunit then tied those same colored wires in the trunk to the cable that ran from the speaker amp to the sub amp and tied the black wire on that same cable to the blue wire on the harness for my amp remote. Do I need to tie into the red and yellow wires running into the sub amp for power? I am heading back to ks tomorrow morning and would like to have my sub working for the trip
